1984 380SEL
Hello,
Can anyone help me with going about finding a complete exhaust system or backbox (don't know condition of whole exhaust yet but it sounds way to beefy!) for my 1984 380SEL? can't seem to find it available to buy anywhere online.

I'm waiting back on a couple of quotes for a custom fabrication job but I'm guessing it's going to be very expensive.

I should probably get it checked out first and see what needs replacing!

Exhausts for the V8's are not available as pattern parts (I wasn't able to find a system anyhow)
As far as I know you can still get them genuine for about £1,000. I think you could use a 420 exhaust as they still have the single down pipes. They seem to last very well, all my Merc exhausts have lasted at least 23 years!
You will find specialists will probably estimate £700 to £1000 for original route and number of silencers.

Your car looks very clean btw.

Timax & Bosal made them obviously quite a few years ago, as ive supplied quite a few in my time.

Link wont work, so here are the part numbers, osf front pipe, MZ167A, NSF MZ165C, CENTRE SECTION MZ164D, REAR SILENCER MZ168X

there maybe some still avalible for the sel, as suggested Ring Chester Exhausts Supplies, they carry huge stocks of new and obsolete numbers.

Hope the above helps;)

Didn't Pontoneer get some done for his to the original pattern? Think it was somewhere in Nottingham and there's a thread on here with photos somewhere

Sent from my iPhone using MBClub UK

cool thanks for the info should prove helpful in my quest for a new exhaust.

Got a quote of £899 for a full stainless steel system from Longlife which is interesting....

Onwards and Upwards!:bannana::bannana:

I've got a new genuine centre section, yours for £150

Orite, Would that be the whole centre part pictured in the diagram above provided by merc85?

I'm going to get it checked out first if needed (after what my untrained eyes can see) to find out exactly what needs replacing, good chance it will be all of it as its the original exhaust.

could it be couriered? I live in Somerset. any chance of sum pic's sent to [email protected]

Can do, if it's not the bit you need, I'd price up the parts from MB, might not be as expensive as you'd think, and MB exhausts are very well made.

I remember trying to get a exhaust for my 500sl and it was £700-£800 form dealer and that wasn't even the whole thing, but I would love to get a stainless steel lol hear the old v8 rumble
