420 SEL again!?

Up to £360 at the moment.....

I've decided that at anything under 500-550 I'm willing to have a punt on it but with so long to go I think it may get a little above that. I'm staying strong though, plenty more fish in the sea (that I also don't really need!) if it goes sky high.

If the car is reasonably local why not contact the seller and go and see the car.
You can make up your mind and make a cash offer if you want.

The seller will probably prefer an offer as he won't get hit with a comission fee.

To be fair it does look pretty tidy, especially under the bonnet.

By the time the insurance was paid and the cost of re selling it, it would probably have been cheaper to rent a new S class for the day. Hmmm....

my guess is that just like the tax that's not been bought, the insurance went the same way.

Leave the car registered in somebody elses name and run it on your insurance ( presuming you have some) with third party cover.

I can't believe anybody would run their friends to a wedding in an untaxed car - just imagine getting pulled on the way to the church - talk your way out of that one :)

Something dodgy here

I think the seller is a trader who wants to sell without trade liabilities so is posing as a private seller.

Hi guys,

I'm going to see it later today. The seller confirmed that the car is insured (comprehensively through Norwich Union) and that he was holding off on buying the tax until he received the V5. Upon getting the V5 back he just stuck it back on ebay.

I think he's trying to recoup his buy price and costs and probably not a lot more:

£422 for the car
Circa £30 per month for insurance
£80 for 600 miles of motoring
circa £20 ebay fees

We'll see, after having talked to him twice I'm positive he's not a dealer, just a lad. The car is parked outside his (possibly parents) house (I know where that is as it's about 2 miles from me and I recognised it from the photos). There is also a nice claret E270 CDI and a 2.8 BMW Z3 roadster there, wonder if he'd take £500 for one of them!

We'll see, it looks pretty tight from the drive past, few rust patches but pretty much as described.

Good luck Benjj,
My advice is to treat what this person says with the proverbial pinch of salt. He may well be truthful and very honest, I simply have no idea. However the reason he gave for buying the vehicle does not make sense. Examine this car with your eyes wide open, put your heart on the back burner, and your brain in top gear.

If you know a fair bit about cars then there is no sense me rambling, if you know very little, then PLEASE do not rush into this get hold of a friend, plus do a search on this forum on what to look out for. Reading your posts I am slightly suspicious about this car and its very quick re-sale. The reference to oil for some inexplicable reason is ringing alarm bells. If this vehicle is using lots of oil then it might look fairly fresh (or of course just the opposite)

Good luck with the inspection and hopefully I am being a worrying old fuddy.

Kind regards,
John

Hi all,

Never got round to seeing it last week, family bonfire night/woes etc!

Keeping an eye on in mind.

Benjj
