450SLC 5.0 - power steering

LENGTH 1184mm

I had a 450SLC but I craved the 450SLC 5.0. You have a gem there. Spare no expense!!!!

Easy for me to say.

The 450's fuel consumption was horrific but the 500SL I had was much more reasonable. I imagine that yours might be similarly reasonable with the all aluminium engine. I assume it is the all aluminium 5 litre?

Happy motoring.

Hi all, thanks for the messages - indeed, she's the 5.0 ally engine; pre-curser to that in my 500E that served well for 12 years and 150k miles....!
We were away for Christmas - here's the couple of photos of the replacement belt and obvious problem with the tensioner...!

Thanks Grober for the info on the best option - will check it out today.

Best to all for '23, keep using the petrol - it won't be there forever!

Paul

EPC indicates these sizes below for your car, dependant on engine number (item 14 at the bottom of the pic). Perhaps a previous owner fitted the 960mm instead of the 1000mm.

Thanks for the above - I've ordered one to arrive today; another job for the weekend.
Next will be overhaul of the WUR and perhaps distributer / injector replacement... Interesting project all together!

It's worth doing a fuel pressure test of the WUR before opening it up. If the filters on the input side look ok (there are ~3 little wire mesh discs in there), then I would leave well alone. I changed my injectors and seats too but left the fuel distributer too as it was running fine.
