But who would spec one without ac? I suspect that would be what's preventing the sale...

Sold already I think, I'm surprised to see the advert there.

Spec on these can often be interesting, or just odd. My '89 parts 420SE had lots of nice stuff, but no air conditioning or cruise control.

In them days air con wasnt a expectation like now a days. My dad had 3 W126 and a W116 and none had air con. The first car he ever owned with air con was a W140.

A/C certainly wasn't as commonplace back then. I looked at a number of them before getting one a few years back (a last of the line W126 500SEL which was registered on a K plate - I miss that car...) Anyhow, to cut a long story short, it wa samazing at how low you could spec one of these in it's German homeland. I saw some with no AC, velour upholstery, manual seat adjustment, a manual gearbox & even manual windows - in an S class !

It's always been the way with the S. I couldn't believe it at first, I saw a poverty spec w116 and thought it was so odd.
