I've been told by a non merc technician that the water pumps on my car can be a bit dodgy as far as leaking is concerned, just wondered if anyone has experienced this issue. The cars only done 25k.
Any comments welcome.

I had my water pump replaced under warranty at around 36000. I hadn't noticed a problem but during the 3 year service it was replaced as the dealership noticed it was starting to seep. Ive read on here the water pumps can be problematic.

Replaced quite a few now.
They are poor quality

Mine was seeping at 15k (topped up twice in 6 weeks, light on dash) on a 62 reg c220 amg sport plus, it was replaced under warranty, comon fault its made of plastic, bloody plastic on a £35k car, is that progress?

Thank you all for your comments, like you, I can't believe MB would compromise a £35k car and a brilliant engine for a cheap plastic pump. You live and learn.

Cheers

I think it's worth taking it to a good garage (regardless of franchise etc) and get a proper set of tests done before you spend more cash. I took my daughters Toyota which had similar symptoms to yours, they did a gas test on the radiator to check for combustion products. Ours was the head gasket. It cost £40, much better than chasing guesses around.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

I doubt its cheap either!! The fact its predominantly made of plastic may not be the reason they are prone to fail of course. Most cars over the years have parts that have a reputation for failing including water pumps.
