I have read some posts about transmission fluid leaking into the wiring loom on the post 1996 electronic boxes (and if not corrected, destroying an ecu). I seem to recall there is a modified part to prevent this happening.

My question is:

Is there any checks on the car that I can make to see if this is a problem and where exactly do I look?

Many thanks in advance!

Lift up the passenger carpet and you will find a metal plate attached with plastic nuts. Remove the nuts and remove the plate. Attached to the plate is the geabox control unit. Make sure the ignition is off and remove the plug and check for oil.

The modified part is called a pilot bushing and is the elctrical plug that attaches to the gearbox. Very cheap to buy and fit.
