'87 W124 AMG Hammer 6.0 litre 4 cam 1 of 13

Talbir is probably booking tickets over as I type.

Why do they chrome the wheels over there, looks awful.

Still that vehicle looks mint.

The chrome looks great over there! It's over here that the chrome looks rubbish as our skies are grey and roads very dirty.

That 124 looks like it means business :)

What a car  A nice little lottery win friday night and that baby could be sat in my garage in a few weeks :)

Not if I win before you :D:devil:

I would if i had spare cash (can someone buy my silver 500e please, immediately, right now ! ;) )....on the other hand i already have an equivalent car, the 5.6 Hammer w124, remember (The missing RHD Hammer thread on this very forum...) ?

Mine being a RHD is only 1 of 2 Hammers in the world !

The only difference between my Hammer and this on ebay is 25bhp, mine is a 5.6 DOHC as opposed to the 6.0.

Still one can never have enough of these....it is a special piece - if you can take the plunge, do it ! You won't regret it one bit !

I have already added mine to my will ! Passion is what these cars are about.
Hammers

Great AMG speedo plate as well.....the MPH equivalent of the KPH they did on the German versions of the Hammer...which stopped at 320 KPH

Not unrealistic given that the 911-spanking Hammer in real life testing topped out at a whopping 186mph

Like the mats:D

I wonder what the capacity of the engine is?

;) :D

Car would have started off life as a base 3.0 (the 3.0 being the lowest spec W124 in the US) and would then have been stripped and rebuilt with new mechanicals.

Mine started off life as a humble 200....not even a 200E..lol

At the current exchange rates its an attractive buy!

American's place an intrinsic value on items in a way us Brits don't.

They genuinely value hand crafted and bespoke products and will pay through the nose for them.

It's a culture thing more than anything. Here in the UK the status symbol is "New" and Designer.....so until cars become really rare and old or get iconic status they have no value.....

Although rare I'd be surprised if that car made more than £30,000 here, people would look at it, then price up a used E55......

Talbir takes a different view as do I, but we're few and far between, which means we don't drive prices up that much...

I don't think I'd be willing to pay that much for exclusivity alone. The body kit and interior are dated. An E60 (W124) would make a lot more sense.

The last Hammer that sold in the UK to a Collector in Ireland, late last year, sold for 32k. Allegedely, that car had lost it's original bottom end of the engine, had replacement Recaros, had lost it's original body colour etc - but, crucially, it had been restored to excellent condition. Moreover it was a series 1 DOHC engine, 5.0 rated at 340bhp.

An original Hammer, unmolested from the state it left Strattons in will be easily as much as 32k and in the case of my Hammer a whole lot more....mine is a series 2 5.6 DOHC, rated at 360bhp.....but my car has original AMG interior, GT diff, and the car is AS it left Stratton, everything that they touched is still there. That means everything when it comes to price.

Although i agree, your average Joe who doesn't know better would compare to a current e55. But an E55 is no comparison - an E55 is a standard w210/w211 with bolt on AMG bits, turned around in 3-4 man days. The Hammers were 25-30 man days with major chassis modifications to accomodate the AMG drivetrain.

The e55 has no charisma, is not much faster than the normally aspirated 5.6 and 6.0 Hammers...and the base car is far less durable than the w124 the Hammer is based on.

For £70k, you could buy a brand new E63 AMG.
I for one would still take the Hammer, too.

I would certainly make an interesting back to back road & track test :D

I've always said to my friends that I'd rather blow a load of cash rebuilding my car to the spec I want than buying a newer car.

My Dad doesn't see it that way, and wants me to have a newer car. He controls my finances, so thats the way it will go.
It's a double edged sward to be honest, as I know I can get a V8 with the budget, but I'll lose all the day to day enjoyment an older Merc gives. I'd rather rebuild the engine and strap on a couple of Turbos ;)
