Mercedes CL203 200CDI
Just doing a bit of Sunday morning sifting through some classifieds and I spotted this …

I have a CL203 now, but I’ve not seen one with a spicy configuration like this. It appears to be very well maintained… I’m intrigued! What do you think?

Looks like a decent motor, bit of a Sleeper too.:)
Oh they rarely get a second glance and I know as an owner that the CL203 is at the entry level of owning a Mercedes, but 272bhp in that little thing 👀… Not saying I would, but a simple remap and no other modification would get you to 300bhp. Not that it’s needed, but its only a £3k car. Anyway, it piqued my interest as I don’t think there’s many of them about.

A very late, high spec, CL203.... sounds great!

Aren’t there some expensive problems with the crankshaft on the early 350 petrol engine ?
Truthfully I don’t know much about them as I’ve never seen one before. I’m sure it would need a bit of research, but interesting that it’s fairly mundane looking by todays standards, but packs a punch!

The repeated MOT advisories and failures regarding tyres and brakes do give an impression of a car that wasn't looked after too well by previous owners.... unless the private plate was originally on a different car?

Hi there, I was looking at the CL 500 as my friend has one, These are such a bargain for what you get - It was looking at the CL that led me to realise that my absolute dream car was in easy reach as they too are a bargain - Enter the SL 500! But to be honest if i wasn't looking for something for touring around in the summer and wanted a convertible, i would be driving the CL right now.
I did read somewhere that there was a potential issue with the 3.5L V6 engine regarding the cam?
Personally i would go for the 5.0L

M272 engine issues are detailed on the engines wikipedia page. Does not mean this car has an issue of course but good to be aware, caveat emptor etc

Yeah, although the advert does say they’ve now all been replaced, but 🤷‍♂️… It’s not going to be cheap to maintain. I only do about 1500 miles a year, but could be a fun 1500 miles 🙃

This car is a CL203 though which is the W203 C Class Coupe … Not quite the standard of a CL, but I would love one! Or an SL … Or any of them 😆 I love the Mercs!

Do you think it’s worth the asking price? £3k would be reasonable wouldn’t it for a low mileage, well maintained of this particular version 🤷‍♂️
I don't think it's bad value if an inspection and some expensive service history e.g. actual evidence of gearbox fluids.

Engine and suspension bushings a shocks all round, because if you own one of these you will know they absolutely desperately need doing around 100k/10yrs. I had the 320 aged between about 10-15 yrs old during my ownership, and getting the foot down on a curve anything than a dry or perfectly smooth road surface will have the rear twitching un-nervingly all over the place!

One massive benefit meaning I wished I had the 350 was the fuel economy. If you were very gentle, I bet you could get 50mpg, because I once achieve just over 40mpg in the 320 on a long drive to Harrogate up the M1 on a slow busy traffic Friday.

£615 a year road tax will put many potential buyers off.
