I mentioned this about 18 months ago when my girlfriend was looking at an A class when they first cane out, but I had another go in one recently and am just flabbergasted at how wrong Mercedes have got the driving position. I just can't get comfortable in it - IMO, the pedals protrude into the cabin too far so you have to sit a long way back, then the steering wheel is too much of a stretch, even on its furthest out setting. You end up sitting like a monkey with bent legs and stretched arms!

The A45 is marginally better thanks to the seat design but it's still not good enough...BMW, Audi, VW etc have made their small cars with almost perfect driving positions so I'm pretty sure it's not just me - has anyone else tried or bought an A Class and noticed this?

Such a shame, as I really do fancy an A45 at some point but this is a deal breaker :(

Really? Maybe I'm shaped like a monkey but I find mine fine. It doesn't have a huge amount of room around the pedals but I find the seat and position spot on. Very happy with my A45.

I guess both me and my son are both monkeys then. I have only driven his A a few times and did not feel at all 'monkey like' with my posture/seating position. His response to that question was (edited), "Eh?"

But we are both grateful for clarification on our physical deformities. We were always curious but didn't want to ask.

Allow me to clarify....I meant 'I' end up sitting like a monkey. My post was not intended as an insult to anyone ;)

Anyhow, it seems it's just me that has this problem then.

Knew this was the case and be assured my reply was very much tongue in cheek.

For me, out of the German's it's Audi that I just can't get right as the seat just doesn't go low enough for me, BMW for the win as far as seat adjustment goes.

'I' end up sitting like a monkey.

Possible to take a photo???:D

GLA 45 is the same.

Now I found the GLA gave a nice driving position but ingress/egress was abismal, that door aperture is seriously cut across by the A pillar.

As to the Audi seating we test drove a Q3 and an A6 and both were so much easier in all respects, and as for the seat adjustment the A6 seat goes back too far for me and I am 6'2" with long legs M'Lud.....also as a saloon car with a sunroof there is still good clearance for the old noggin, something a lot of cars do not give me.

Must admit though, usually BMWs always give loads of legroom.
