Hello! I am new here, currently saving for an A Class. Not sure how you guys feel about these, but i do see them as a nice lady car! :D Got a Corsa at the moment, and it would be a step up for sure.

Now, I would like to mod one - also something i'm not sure how you're all going to feel about - nothing too drastic, just a black one, with tinted windows and some chromes... Bit gangster if you will!

I've looked for pictures both on here and on the net, and not found anything i like TBH.

I'm not into the whole max power modding, makes me feel ill, so i don't want pics of any freaky moulding... so please help!!

Thanks - hopefully speak to some of you soon! :)

Don't go for chromes, get some nice AMG alloys....

Brabus do some nice styling touches ....

Those are some nice pictures, thanks everyone. I would LOVE to have one of the new ones, they are drool-worthy. But unfortunately, a modest budget only allows a used one. :( But it's all good, i'll get there one day i'm sure. :)

Brabus Stuff is very very very expencive . For a bodykit and set of wheels in the brabus range , you could buy a complete brand new corsa

Which shape A class are you after?

I saw a (new shape) black A-class today with the 7 (?) spoke alloys as fitted to the C-class sports coupe. Looked great.

Maybe those would fit on the original A-class? Would be fairly cheap to as I'm sure you could pick up a set on ebay or in the classifieds.

Other than one of the new ones, lol, i Don't know... it would just have to be one that came up at a good price, i like them all - although i prefer a 2 door. Not really sat down and worked out all the differences TBH. Anyone want to enlighten me?

No 2 door option as far as I remember on the older version - there are long and short wheelbase versions of the 5 door though - there may be a 2 door option on the newer one, but they are *very* new.

Oh bugger, well that is annoying! Will have to do more research. There is one in my road that i like, but i have no idea what model it is. I'd probably prefer the short wheelbase. Grrr.. better hit the books and actually decide which one I want. I'm passed the ditsy female "it's gotta be a black one" now, lol.

Avoid the Autotronic CVT versions: my wife had one as a courtesy car and the transmission was so bad and the drive so slow she returned the car.

Go to www.honestjohn.co.uk and the 'Weeks Best Deals' section for the best price for a new A-Class. Note that some MB dealers discount heavily (Inchcape group = MB Nottingham & others in midlands) but they are not allowed to advertise this per their franchise agreement with MBUK.

If you just walk-in to an MB dealer then expect the be fleeced: do your homework and neogtiate remotely by e-mail/phone to avoid the salesperson working their sales training on you to milk your cash.

Ignore the brand image and do not be afraid to demand a discount!!!

Hi Classy A Class!

My advice would be to avoid the old A class model altogether and go for the new one, even if it means saving up for a bit longer. The new model is leagues ahead of the old one in every respect and feels like a quality car, whereas the old one never did IMO. The reliability and build quality of the older model is poor too. (compare the honest john reviews of the two models).

Mercedes is doing an offer on the A class at the moment with a c£1300 discount and a PCP deal of 3.9% APR over 3 years. Seems quite a good deal to me, and may be worth looking into as you only need to put £1K down up front.

See the pics of our new A class in the members gallery. It looks miles better than the old one IMO.

Hello and welcome Classy A Class.

Apparently, the A150 Classic SE is the one to target and it is available in three door format. Guess whats on my radar when the Polo hits three years ;) . Its good value and will give you a perfectly workable starting point for any modding that you fancy.

The SE bit bundles some options together which are good value when bought as that sort of package. From memory, the wheels on the A Class are not very interchangeable with the other models such as C/CLK etc due to the relatively large differences in offset but, the styles are available typically the ones that come on the C Class coupe with evo package.

My advice would be to save up and get the new model but, as others have said, there are discounts to be had with this car and MB are doing offers at the moment with dealer sponsored deposits on PCP so, you effectively get interest free credit. You will have the baloon payment at the end but life's too short to worry about that :D .

Portzy.

The A150 will be the best in terms of residuals etc, but its not the best driving experience as the performance is adequate at best. You have to work it quite hard to keep up with traffic. It'll be fine for a town car though. The A170 has just that bit more zip which improves the driving experience significantly.

We have jsut ordered a B Class 200 CDI with Autotronic for my wife. I was extremely unsure about this having heard several negative comments but MB lent us one for a day and I was pleasantly surprised with the smoothness and pick-up. For what we want around town and short motorway journeys it is ideal. Car is delivered towards end Feb and wil report thereafter.

Thanks for all your comments everyone! There are so many more options that i thought! It's fantastic. Just looked at the other members A Class [in the last link] and my word it's beautiful! Exactly what i would like. :D Think i'm going to have to cut down on my spending!! Handbags or car... hmmm!

I've never actually driven one [maybe i should visit a showroom at the weekend?] but ive only been driving for a year - are these recommended for new'ish drivers??

If you get an A150 its quite a low insurance group, although I would try to build up some no claims discount first as I have a feeling that the insurance premiums may be horrendous for a new driver.

Why not go onto one of the on-line insurance companies (such as direct line) and get a quote (fully comprehensive). Then you will be able to see whether the whole thing is feasible or whether you should wait a few years.

Fair enough BonzoDog. She was loaned a 6-month old A180CDi (I think it was a 180) with 10K miles. Transmission was snatchy when slowing down and the mechanical noise from the engine was quite a shock. Kickdown: there was not any-dangerous when trying to overtake. She likened it to her old VW Golf 100bhp auto for acceleration.

I reckon CVT is fine when new: but after 10K as a courtesy car it is simply knackered. Or perhaps it was just a dog car (no pun!).

Wish you luck anyway.
