A class - saving for one!

If you get an A150 its quite a low insurance group, although I would try to build up some no claims discount first as I have a feeling that the insurance premiums may be horrendous for a new driver.

Why not go onto one of the on-line insurance companies (such as direct line) and get a quote (fully comprehensive). Then you will be able to see whether the whole thing is feasible or whether you should wait a few years.

Well TBH I hadn't thought of insurance - My insurance has just gone down by £300 on my corsa b'c i've had my license a year now. I wanted an FTO but they wanted £3,000 for insurance! I thought the A class would be a nice sensible car, lol. With a Toyota Supra in the house as well, suppose it would be nice to have something sensible. Do i really have something to worry about? They can't be too much surely? B'c obviously, insurance is an important factor!

Was so close today to just applying for a new one from MB!! Went on the website, ended up having to phone my dad as the voice of common sense to bring me back to earth, lol. :) I am head over heels for the new one since going to the website, etc.

THE CHOICES!!!!

When I'd been driving a year I thought about swapping my Nova 1.3 SR (5yrs old) for a Suzuki Swift 1.3 GTi (1yr old). Car was going to cost £4400 if I remember right. Insurance company insisted on fully comp as relatively new, which cost...

...£4300!! And that was 11 years ago!!

That £3,000 for the FTO was only TPFT and with an excess of £400 IIRC. Sucks doesn't it!

Well I didn't win the euro millions tonight so it looks like im going to have to continue saving for an old one... :sigh: I suppose I was happy thinking i could have an older one before i fell in love with the new one! Still got to decide the EXACT model i want. ARGH!

A Class

Just bear in mind that the A Class has acquired a pretty diabolical reliability record. The semi-auto box in particular was renowned for failing expensively. As with most modern Mercs later cars are said to be much better. I'd do your homework carefully and buy a car with a good warranty

As a bit of perspective, a friend of mine has two brothers with kids. One has an A Class - mmm nice, I thought, as we went off in it. The other has a Renault Scenic - bloody hell, I thought, as we nipped round a corner like a rat up a drainpipe. The Scenic was miles ahead of the A Class in terms of the driving experience and that was apparent even from the back seat

The original A Class is a very cleverly designed FWD hatch but it's not an enthusiasts car. The new A Class, of course, changes everything and is a very different car

Now original cars are round the £4k mark they are looking more & more tempting but I'd only buy one with history, the right spec & colour - and cheap

THE CHOICES!!!!

Theres a great finance offer from MB at the moment for all cars delivered before 1st April. Its so good, its better to take it then leave the money in the bank. [edit]By all cars I mean new "new A-class" cars[/edit]

Basically, what is happening is the dealer is getting an extra lump of cash when people take the finance, and HAS to put some of it towards a contribution to the deposit, and some of it to subsidise the finance rate. The finance rate is down at about 3.5% - and theres a guaranteed residual after 3 years. so you can work out the absolute worst case that it may cost you.

You should be able to get a few extra percent of the car aswell

[NB, its slightly silly designed offer, because the contribution to the deposit [and any extra discount you negotiate] has to be counted as a contribution to the deposit - if it was a discount, then the VAT would be saved and it would be worth more]

- now that gives you a dilema doesnt it :-) (I ordered a A180CDI avantgarde with a load of toys, since i need a car that will do more than 18.4MPG since i'm just about to start doing 10k miles per annum extra)

Cheers

Richard

Now do you guys mean the old model 'A' The face lift 'A' or the New 'A'
I wouldn't touch the old 'A' The face lift is ok with some reservations and yes I like the New 'A' It is after all a New car in many respects, trouble is its not old enough yet to see if it has problems as do the other two?
There is a whole page of pics of the New 'A' on my site
