Called my local Inchcape to see what haggling I could do over service / work on the new (but not here yet) R129, they ran the VIN said they havent seen it for 18 months (its on assyst) and told me oh its in here now

Why I asked - well the roof needs resetting and it probably needs a new battery

So I guess they took it out to prep it pre RAC inspection on monday and tried the roof with low battery (Im guessing) so I asked if they would give me an evaluation of the car before I fully inspect it (on sat) and RAC man does on mon and I collect on tuesday

NOTHING is ever simple in my life.................

Sounds like a lucky break to me:)

You can gauge the honesty of the seller as you inspect the vehicle - 'ever had any problem with the roof mechanism on this?'....

is this the one in pall mall or the one on the wirral?

Wirral - I live next door to it in West Kirby

Lucky break really as it has had dealer attention and an RAC inspection

I have just found out my LFC parking space for 08/09 season is in Pall Mall just behind Inchcape - what fun that park and ride will be - I see me getting home from the game at midnight

A low voltage start can trip all sorts of error codes on an R129 (windows, roll bar, roof) - I had to take mine in to get them cleared via STAR. Fairly common on cars that aren't daily drivers.

That's why mine is kept on an AccuMate charger now:

Pls advise where to get one as mine will be weekends at best - does it need fitting ?

I completely agree had probs on low voltage starts with fault codes on my CLK 23K sport, which is a weekend car, got an Accumate fittted it out exactly as you show with wall bracket and fly lead, park it in the garage Sunday night and take it off charge Friday night, works perfect and conditions the battery too giving longer life, top bit of kit for low investment

I leave mine on the AccuMate permanently. The flylead to the battery tucks behind the trim panel on that side of the boot, so just the rubber-covered plug is showing.

Don't forget to turn the boot light off with the white switch, as the boot doesn't close fully with the cable there. Otherwise the charger is permanently having to put back in what the light is taking out :D

The boot light switch resets whenever you close the boot fully, so you need to do this each time.

PLUS

I need to put a sign on the garage door saying

DISCONNECT battery charger before driving off

:D

Ok we established the indie dealer who is selling the car for a private chap who is a high up at LFC who lives virtually in the next street to me sent the car to inchcape for a roof reset.....

On the QT they called and advised iit was a very nice car and was a good un which I suspected so the RAC man does his bit on mon and I will pick up with hard top stand (hope it folds) on tuesday

It needs a smaller service and the indie will do it BUT im taking it to inchcape as well (yes I know) cos I want to keep the service record straight

The nasty Pioneer will get swapped for a nice Blaupunkt / Becker and the paint will be tidied initially then I will reseal the roof and drive it :bannana:

Will be a bit slow compared to the stupid CLS but I see this as a cruiser not a racer and perfect for summer evening pub trips.

I have a plate on retention which will also go on - D5 TUK my biz is called DST UK :) TIP name your business after your reg plate not the other way round - far far cheaper :D

Sounds good!

I've kept the full MBSH going on mine - push for a discount, I get 40% off labour plus 10% off parts.

My hard top stand is non-folding and only just fitted into the VW Sharan I had then, with all the middle seats removed :D But the dealer (M-B Eastbourne) did give it to me for nothing.

Check your indicator assembly is fully located..............:D

Dave Bird in parts will give you a discount on parts and servicing if you ask nicely. He used to work at Checkpoint. Will they collect and deliver for you though is the question ?!

I live just behind the Ringers, thought I was close to the dealer !

I have a Blaupunkt Travel Pilot in the 500 and a Becker Indianapolis pro in the 60. I can't recall if there was a significant difference in the prices (though I'm sure the Becker was more), but the Becker is I think much better.

I am just a little down the hill towards the beach, dont confuse with the black cls 350 that is next door to them on black horse hill :) I have spoken with Dave before over the elusive right hand drive cup holder for the CLS (dont exist LHD only  my Maccy D coffee gets my left elbow in it every time) - I will compile my parts list and speak with them over some dizzy- RAC man at car on monday and will collect tuesday - all buttons work - alarm goosed - 12 months mot / 6m tax drived well / solid / seat supports my 17 stone and Im happy - if Mr Rac finds anything I will be surprised.

I have decided initially on a Baby Becker at £250 with bluetooth, brighter bulbs, full detail valet, roof reseal and treatement however ONE thing on most SL`s is also missing on this - the passenger inner side door sill (inside carpeted area really should be the kickpanel) has a huge crosshead that has a cap - caps missing (as it is on most I viewed) is this available ? I was thinking to paint the the head mushroom
