Hi all

I wondered if I could tap into your Mercedes knowledge please? My Father recently passed away leaving behind his 1993 E320 Saloon. My mother doesn't drive so she has asked me to sell it as she now needs the money. The only problem is I dont really know how much it is worth and what to put it up for. Its in really good condition, a couple of scuffs on the bodywork, has an MOT until April next year, some paperwork as my dad was terrible at keeping stuff like that.

I drove it 150 miles home and it didn't miss a beat once, the only issue I think is a slight brake judder probably caused by a warped disc.

Any advice would be gratefully recieved!

First of the 320 Models before the facelift. Walnut wood trim and leather puts it a step up from standard trim level. You don't say anything about mileage or service history? With these cars mechanicals are pretty strong ---its body condition especially underneath thats paramount. Potential weak spots are cylinder head gasket and engine wiring looms.

Sorry its got 104k on the clock and near full service history from what I can tell looking at the paperwork, service book is stamped up to 2013 and receipts since then from my fathers mechanice. As you said it has walnut wood trim, full leather, cruise control electric windows, electric drivers seated, heated seats etc. Water Pump and Cam belt were replaced last year.

All in all it seems a tidy car, I just cant seem to find any others for sale online, lots of coupes and cabrios but precious few saloons.

You are correct they are far and few between. Not too sure that adds anything to the value but I'd see it as a positive. I'd suggest you put it on eBay (plenty of good quality photos and detailed service history etc), that will soon tell you what it's worth, stick a reserve of £1500? and hope to get north of 2k as it's nice spec and looks good.

BTW, it's the water pump and drive belt that was replaced, no cambelt as these engines are chain driven.

There has always been a big difference in market values between saloons and their coupe/cabriolet/estate equivalents. Premium original condition cars as always will fetch strong money but the only car I could find for sale was this one.

Bear in mind that a cylinder head gasket repair and the subsequent disturbance of a old dodgy engine wiring loom which might then need replacing might cost £1-£1.5k to be professionally repaired so any documented evidence that the wiring loom has been replaced will add value to the car.
