A W211 estate at last!!!

One thing re the new windscreen.

For the auto wipers to work properly an MB screen is recommended and they are big bucks (unless you claim on the ins). Some of the copy screens make the wipers more or less sensitive which is highly annoying!

Why not try the Autoglass bods for the chip repair service (free) - they are always hanging around B&Q car parks!

Having looked at the Autotrader ad, that looks like a bargain! Very nice condition and I do like the wood inserts- Seem to remember Splang (Boris) had similar wood on his E500.

Feel free to ask any questions regarding gadgets and yes we also have a long haired GSD that lives in the rear of our estate.

You mean it's a hippy GSD.

Not called Neil by any chance?

:) It's called a lot of things but so far not Neil :)

lovely GSD John, really gorgeous (but i am a shepherd fan!). I was walking mine in the local park just now and stopped to watch a footy game for a while - they kicked the ball out of play just past me and none of them would come to get the ball because of the dog (little do they know its frightened if the wind blows!).

Back to the car and various nice comments above - hopefully it will prove to be a good priced car - wheels on by saturday and then off to wheels in motion on tuesday, as i'm sure 130k miles of driving and no doubt various grease monkeys pretending to do the tracking with a mirror and small length of string (!!), through its life has left it needing a bit of professional alignment (although there are no signs that it does). Needs a ball joint aswell so will get that done at WIM at the same time.

Just waiting for local indie to to return from hols to get a price for the precautionary Valeo rad replacement (yes it has one!!).

Its in a friends bodyshop at the moment having the bumpers sorted from years of parking dints.

Then the car is upto my **** standards!!!

So in all it will have cost me an additonal £1500 to get it spot on - wheels, radiator, bodywork and handling. If it stops there then i'll be very happy. I had out away £1k to spend on whichever car i bought, so without the wheels its turned out about right.

Will post pics next week when all done, cheers

You have a brilliant car but please be aware that they need spoiling.

We are fortunate here on this forum to have a true Mercedes-Benz specialist but there are hundreds of others that give themselves that title and then shrug their shoulders when you ask about adding all the much needed firmware, software upgrades.

The 211 is controlled by a multitude of electronic gadgets, be it the engine management, gearbox, or any other gizzmo you care to imagine and these items aree regularly upgraded by Mercedes-Benz.

When your car is serviced these things will automatically get the latest improvements, so if your Mercedes-Benz Specialist does not do these then they are quite clearly NOT specialists and are not giving you the service the car requires.

The very best example and easy one to understand is an option called COMAND

When this was first released it could not play MP3's. The first time the early cars were serviced, an update was installed and the COMAND could then play these files.

That is just one very small item.. There have been dozens, if not hundreds relating to all the other areas of the car.

Ask him what the latest upgrades are that he has installed!

If this person looks at yuou with a blank expression, then make up your own mind about whether he is the right person to look after your pride and joy :)
