A way to increase MPG?

Dont forget theres always the forums favorite: a Magnet on the fuel line :)

Just Googled this and it APPEARS to have a degree of validity.
Personally speaking, I wouldnt do it.
My thoughts are always, if it actually works with no adverse side effects, then it would already be available ready mixed from the pump.
I wonder what Mercedes would say if asked about this idea?

You mean before or after they have fallen off their chairs laughing??

I had a good google based research session on this about 12 months back. Plenty of people have published their own test results showing some improvement - of course these are not proper research programmes, and the results were not always +ve (although largely so). The best results were always with diesel.

A google for "mercedes acetone" will reveal 100s of hits (some here). I found this one good as a jumping point.

Was planning to have a try - but never got around to it.

The best way to reduce consumption is to drive at whatever "sweet spot" your car is at. At 90kph, I get around 11.5km/l (I think around 8-9 l/100km or around 30mpg). It drops steadily as you go over it, and under it you travel so slow that it works out worse also.

However, it's no fun. That consumption increases by a good 30% to maybe 22mpg when hammering it a little.

Slower is all that'll gain you economy. Of course, as in any equation, the cost in that is time. Despite how much we love to drive, nor how terrific the sound system is, Road Time is Lost Time. Despite how much time it takes up, life just doesn't last very long, and any of it behind the wheel (other than a few horribly twisted driving types [no names, thank you]) is taken from Things That Matter More.
IF there were any Grand and Obvious Secret to Better Mileage, we'd all be doing it. The acetone gimmick is merely another gimmick.

I like their little quote: "A colorless, volatile liquid with a sweet odor. It is considered the least toxic solvent in industry." Least toxic? Compared to that well-known solvent water? Rubbish! :)

Mythbusters did this very well a while back. They compared acetone, that silly hydrogen jar, and something else. None of them helped fuel economy.
