This looks just lovely, not many with that color combo around MERCEDES E320 124-series, 3200 4 Sp Auto 2 door Cabriolet For Sale (1993) on Car And Classic UK

All is missing is a color coded hardtop

I thought for a second you meant "Our" Charles then Dash.

He`s moving from (you`d be lucky to find a parking spot) place so is no surprise if he get`s himself one :thumb:

As a "93" must be one of the very first facelift models. At that age would it have missed the dreaded engine harness insulation meltdown window I wonder?

i thought all 320 were fitted with bio degradable wiring loom

this i believe was a japanese import.. but not 100% sure.. think i have seen it elsewhere

thats been on there for a while.

That surprises me. At that mileage and condition it's not dear, especially for CI. The colour scheme, if you don't like it now, will reek of class over time, and will stand out from all the azurite blues!

i'm pretty certain its the same one whilst having a butchers on the ironside site a couple of months back.

I don't doubt you Billy, as nothing much is moving really, but if someone really wanted a nice example they'd have to travel high and low to find a better one for the money, assuming it's as it should be. I really like the colour scheme. Rosewood is a bit marmite, and I don't think I've seen brazil in the flesh, but if you bought this one as a keeper, it will stand out nicely from the rest, in a very subtle way.

For sure Mike,

its strange to me why cars arent moving dont you think? I get the general concensus that CI values the cars quite high? Do you reckon this is the case?

Forget the eco climate cliche for one minute. Theres a lot of eagle eyed 124 buyers out there who know what they want where IMO if they are in the market to buy a 'minter' you would tend to go to a specialist such as this. A specialist where you know the cars they have bought have been looked after and have significant history etc.

So when Dash posted this i too am surprised its still there along with others on the site :dk:

however this particular version would appeal to a limited market perhaps?

I would say the car is slightly overpriced - I would say around £2k over. Even though the car has low mileage you will still have all the usual issues to address on a car of this age - wiring loom, water pump, rust on front wings, jacking points etc which cost time and money to sort out. The car also has a big engine with fuel economy of ~24 - 26mpg - big engined cars are difficult to move in today's climate.

There is a limited market for the limited market to choose from though, Billy! Less than 600 320s were sold in this country from new, so low mileage cars in this condition are becoming harder to find, and once you've driven a few thousand miles looking at tat in your perferred sheme, you can learn to like an 'unusual' colour! The clichéd azurite blue/cream models, which everyone else wanted, like as not, will have been used more because they were more sought after, and therefore probably changed hands, easily, more often.

You'd have to be thinking about a long term ownership at that price, as there are obviously lots of other cheaper cars out there, but if I didn't have one already and had that kind of spare money, I'd buy it (after a haggle!). I bought mine privately five years ago, for not a lot less, and I reckon CI would have been asking £3k more then.

My E500 is a 93 but I replaced the wiring harness which did look a mess.

I have a drophead, and indeed another coupe, but neither are W124s, or Mercs for that matter.

Trapperjohn, Olly and Nick Froome know all or a bit of the details, but they are sworn to secrecy.

Meanwhile my W124 is singing. One day taking a party to dinner in supreme comfort, the next removing the crap from the garage into which the above cars are going. A supreme machine.

Good stuff Charles!

i dont know much about w124's (as both billy and dash can confirm), however i have started to take an interest a big in these cars and cant think of a better way to cruise around than in one of these with the roof down.

as for what these cars are worth, well thats where i struggle! but i do know this, 16k will get you a lot of car. i have bought most of my cars from car auctions and have seen many a BMW 3 series conv go for that figure and they have the very eco friendly diesle engine and all the mod cons ie sat nav, power hard top etc, now i know that you cant compare the classic w124 with a modern bmw diesel, however most people wont know that the former mentioned is that last of the great mercs nor will they care that its a modern classic, if i may use such a term, what they will want is something that goes like stink, sips fuel, and comes with all the mod cons like big alloys, run flat tyres, led lights etc the list goes on, and thats before you start talking about the maintenance schedual

i had a little (not that little actually) shock last month when i took my w124 in for lube service and gearbox service, didnt see much change out of 500 quid and there is still a few little jobs to do, and if you take into consideration the 9k mile service against the 20k mille service, you can see why people are turning to the modern option

Michael:An old mercedes in good nick will always have presence and always turn heads
Anyone can have a new car but not anyone will have an old one that looks and drives like new

A £16k BMW has a lot of depreciation to come. Look after a W124 convertible in excellent condition and it should not have that.

I was buying fish and chips near here the other day and as I waited outside for my haddock to be fried to order, (the joy of not living in Kensington. 20 years without fish and chips), and saw a 2 year old Audi A4 convertible for £11k, and a 54 reg Porsche Boxster S (54k miles) for 14k in a secondhand dealer. Almost as cheap as the chips...
