There are some older threads with suggestions, however these appear to have gone cold.
So I emailed a local dealer, quick response, but for the mid and rear silencer, I received a quote of £707 to supply with fixings.
Blimey, but rich for me at the moment! Any alternatives?
The coupe rear silencer doesn't fit I understand, or is there an adjustment that can be made to help it fit?
I'm at 199,000 and still going strong!

Thanks in advance

Griff

Apologies, South Wiltshire.
Thank you for the information!!

E-CLASS Convertible (A124) E 320 (124.066) The MB part number they're showing for both silencers appears to be out of date, at least Inchcape doesn't recognise them. A1244910900 appears to be the current part # for a back box, Eberspacher and Ansa (ME10747) appear to the only ones available. Much more choice for the middle box Car Part OE 1244902115, Front Silencer i'm guessing (possibly wrongly) because that's shared with other flavours of 124?

If you're not bothered about origionality then as said there's various places that'll make you an exhaust in 304 stainless which should last forever if fabricated and welded correctly. That was what i was planning to do with my s124 when the cheap pattern back box died but was too busy at the time and as Eberspacher back boxes for estates can be had delivered from Germany for under £150 i just bought one. Perfect fit with zero swearing involved and properly aluminised rather than badly coated with high temp black paint like the genuine MB middle box i bought some years back when they were sensibly priced

This place just outside Salisbury may be of use Griff.

These chaps have come back at £460 +vat for a cat back in stainless, but only single exit pipe? Looks like good value, my mega-miler is a bit beyond preserving as some sort of concourse machine (although exterior and interior are immaculate) so non-original stainless is a tempting option.

I assume that a coupe back box is a no go - the cheap ebay specials are tempting as an interim!!

cheap with europarts sometimes parts are quite cheap a friend put new starter cost him £70 brand new

Is the back box that different?

You may find it's something really simple that is the difference.

Just as an example , the w208 AMG Backbox for the coupe and the cabriolet is different , only because of a small (1inch) flat area on the pipe to get it over the cabriolet rear crossmember.

Whack with a hammer on a coupe one , job done !

I'd imagine it was something like that

Anyone tried out there in interweb land?

Hi Griff,

I've had my cab about 9 years now, and whilst I've never needed one, I understand the back boxes are shallower due to the lower floor pan of the cabrio, which houses some of the roof mechanism.

Shallower, ok that's useful, thank you Mike.
I will confess that all the exhaust has travelled the 199,000 miles with the car except the back box which I had fitted when I bought the car when it had 24k on it from a dealer - it had been crunched by a jack!
I'd love to be able to drop £700 on a genuine with that history, the labelled coupe/cabriolet from eurocarparts looks tempting now that I found they do the E320 as well and oem.....
Dilemma!

In my experience, genuine exhausts aren't what they used to be, so if euro say theirs will fit, I'd ask what their policy is if you pay for labour and it doesn't. It sounds like you've had your money's worth out of the car!
