Hello all..
I'm a norwegian guy who has been working my a## off to get the starter out from my newly purchased A140, 98-mod...
See the attached image of the flywheel ring-gear.. Is this worn out?
I'm used to BMW's and have never been bothered with replacing starter motors so I'm a litte doubtfull.. I've had a Peugeot 605 many years ago that had starter trouble and as I can recon, the ring-gear looked much worse than this.. And I still didn't replace it, and it worked for as long as I kept the car..
The area pictured is the worst part of the gear..
So.. If you were me, would you take the chance to replace only the starter and not the gear too, or would you go the whole 9 yards and replace both?
The reason why I ask, is that I managed to get the starter out without lowering the engine, and thus replacing the gear also would involve serious amounts of extra work... :-/
Any thoughts and experiences would be very appreciated!
Greetings from Norway!
