A140 gearbox issue

Firstly hello everybody. I have been reading through the post now for a while a do not think my issue has been coveered, is it usual for the A140 classic 1400 semi auto box unable to get 4th gear as well as reverse, I have handed into a garage and he said a new box was required? I am still driving though a pain when parking. All other gears are fine 1/2/3/5 but no reverse or 4th anybody help ??

Have a look at a website that someone recommended to me for my bro's A Class, www.aclassinfo.co.uk. Lofty, the guy who made it, is a legend and his website is the most informative website around outlining and solving issues with A Classes.

If you mean a manual with no clutch pedal model. Look above the gearbox at the linkage, a small plastic rod will have come off. Get a new one from MB as it justs pops on

Thanks for the tip been through that site and Bert Rowe's-Mercedes-benz 'A'class info and this information was great and will try the linkage tips. I did wash the engine and after that I was getting the F fault but that was three weeks ago the car runs great through all the other gears as stated and just put through a years MOT so fingers crossed it is only the linkage feels like there is something blocking it from going into the right bit. Thanks again for the replies.

Good advice above, and Bert's site is fantastic - even us Mercedes specialists refer to it sometimes!

Personally I feel the ACS system is OK, and after the brushes have been changed in the control module and the plastic link has been fixed on the gearbox there is very little else that causes problems.

Thanks for the info but had a look and seems ok . Read through lofty's site really good but no mention of my problem only 3 and 5 th gears think it may be similar will have to wait until the weekend now thanks again anyway

Got a friend to look at the selector and he found a circlip down the bottom that had jumped off and was jamming once removed work great:bannana:
