CW168 160 ACS Avantgarde
Hi All and greetings from Sunny North Queensland, AUSTRALIA
For those of you technically inclined I have the following problem :
• Bought as a non goer / project
• W 168 A160 , 1999 Avantgarde , ACS , 182,000Klms
• Serviced by MB dealers until recently
• Service book does not display 049 in the range of codes
• Owner was told it required a new starter motor
• New battery , fully charged at 13.4V
• No volts @ the mauve/white 3 pin connector near the positive end of
the battery when ign sw. in posn. 3
• When ign. is in posn. 2 all warning / caution lights are illuminated
however there is no indication of gear selection ( as this is a ACS it will
not start unless in neutral )
• When manually closing the contacts of the starter relay the starter
activates and cranks the engine
• All earthing points in the engine bay cleaned
• The ignition switch contactor replaced with a new item and battery
recharged
• On the next attempted start all indications are normal including
indication of gear selection and the engine cranked over and started ,
ran for about 15 seconds then stopped
• Subsequent attempts to restart gives the original symptoms ie. No gear
indication and no engagement of the starter motor
• The ASSYST service indicator has been reset
• The door locking system operates normally
• The key fob batteries test OK
• All relevant fuses checked OK
• ACS control module elect. connector pins cleaned
• MAFS/ECU “ “ “ “ “
• ESP/BAS “ “ “ “ “
• ABS “ “ “ “ “
• Gear selector reset carried out
• Relays K7 and K10 transposed P/N 002 542 13 19
• Relays K8 and K9 transposed P/N 002 542 25 19
• CAN OBD2 Data reader ordered !!
• Check power to ACS module … yes with ign. key removed 12v to
blk/mauve , but no sound when changing gear
Currently awaiting DVD with wiring diagrams etc .
I have posted on other forums in the hope that we can all glean
some worthwhile information for those of us that enjoy
the power of positive tinkering !
Will post results .... hopefully positive , as they come to hand .
Cheers , churchy
