Acetone in petrol? Would you?

You can add avariety of substances and as long as they burn Ok it will be alright, but they are only cheaper as the duty hasn't been paid, so are illegal.
petrol is only about 40% petrol the rest is additives anyway.

What about Moth Balls inside your Air Cleaner Housing........ :)

$2.83 a gallon for regular. Why is he worried about gas mileage? We'd get about 1.5 litres for that. I don't think fuel tax is an issue in the US, so the lack of tax on acetone wouldn't make a great difference if it was just replacing the petrol.

At least with a diesel I don't even have to think about such schemes.

There may also be an issue about obtaining acetone in anything other than commercial quantities. I use small quantities of acetone for 'welding' plastic binding for guitars, but last time I tried to get some (some time ago now) I was told by the chemist he wasn't allowed to sell it any more, I believe nail bars were up in arms about it as well. Fortunately my wife had a bottle under the sink and I've managed to survive on that (I don't use much). What I'll do when it's gone, I don't know.

Guys,

Acetone is one of the key components in TATP, the synthetic explosive used in the recent London bombings.

Acetone sales are now heavily scrutinised and in particular bulk purchases if you are not "trade".

Just be aware that if you start ringing up firms asking to buy stuff for "Erm, it makes my car go better, you know" then expect to have shadowy figures in your rear view mirror!!!

So apart from being Illegal and a problem with the Police, it is also Highly Flammable and a Health Hazard.

Seems fine then.;) I wouldn't recommend it for MBs anyway.
