Advice - Tuning the C63

Hi All,

I'm still quite new to the forum, and haven't made too many posts, although I have been doing a lot of research, searching and googling in the background in order to put together an initial spec for tuning my C63.

Just to give you an overview on the car, I have a 2013 Performance Pack C63, with 487bhp from factory and around 27,000 miles, which has now been Eurocharged making 516.2bhp at the time.

My main aim is to add a bit more power (Hopefully around 750bhp), improve the handing and responsiveness, while trying maintain the reliability of the car as much as possible. (Don't fancy blowing a transmission)

Having spoken with Acid (Who let me drive his car, thanks for that), Eurocharged, Lee and a few of the other people around the scene, I thought it would be a good time to start a thread posting my ideas so I can get a further understanding of the modifications, and what may be the best options out there.

So far I've kind of decided on the below:

Weistec Stage 2 or Stage 3 Supercharger Kit
IPE Long Tube Headers
IPE Cat Back Exhaust System
Quaife LSD
Valvebody/TCU Upgrade
KW DDC Coilovers

My main decision I feel is deciding between Stage 2 and Stage 3, realistically at Stage 2 I guess you're looking at around 720bhp, but with Stage 3 on a low boost setting and with a larger pulley closer to Acids 87mm I should be able to get close to 750bhp. Although then we could be on the boundary of something breaking.

Moving forward I feel the benefit of going Stage 3 would be if I wanted to add more power. Once I could afford to look at the internals and transmission further, with Stage 3 it would only mean a pulley change to drive some more power from the charger instead of upgrading from a 2.3l to a 3l charger.

What is the maximum power you can safely run a PP C63? (I've heard around 750-800bhp)

It would be good to hear everyone's thoughts, and whether there's anything you'd change or add etc......

lol @ "a bit more power". I cant comment as I am completely inexperienced on this and will keep an eye on this thread.

However 700 bhp and rear wheel drive you wont be getting far unless you have some drag slicks. If anything I think stage 2 is enough as stage 3 may begin to make things more unreliable

Not over familiar with the M156 though I know that Acid's car is pretty nippy having borrowed it myself. :)

Your list seems about spot on to me, though I'd have the Quaife up in number one spot unless all the mods will be done together. Stage 3 Weistec seems to be a lot more aggressive than Stage 2 though I suppose that if you could live with that it may not be a bad thing, especially as you can alter it by swapping pulleys...

Another thing which may be worth considering is the upgrade to the ARP head bolts/studs, which I know Lee's had done as have a few others. More for peace of mind than anything else.

As for the gearbox upgrade, I'm now considering going the whole way and going for the Weistec Bullet Proof. I think that it's the torque (900+ft/lbs) which will ultimately kill mine, so a TCU/Valve body upgrade may not benefit too much, whereas the box rebuild seems a logical progression.

Finally, what about NOX? Just a thought, but I know that it pushed Jimmy's E63 a while ago up to over 800bhp

I will look into the ARP Head Bolts, and probably add this too my list more for peace of mind, like you say. Don't fancy anything going bang.

I will go with the bullet proof transmission if I decide to push the car further in the future, but for now I think the outlay with everything else would be too much.

Not a fan of NOX, used to run it on my drag Saxo (Don't laugh). Would prefer to have the power there all the time.

I think Stage 3 is going to be the way to go, as long as the car can handle the power. Just need to keep it under 750bhp and hopefully should be usable and safe.

You don't need to worry about head bolts it's only the pre-facelift cars that had the failure issues.

In that case apologies about the bolts, I thought that it was a belt and braces jobbie, as I know that Developer John had his replaced.

A car later than engine number ending 60658 will have the modified bolts. If you were going stage three then ARP studs may still be a good idea.

I have forged internals as well, which is a good start. Means we should be safe running around 750bhp from the research I've been doing.

Deposit paid, and Stage 3 has been ordered. Now we just have to wait for the parts to come in. I will start a build thread on here once the car goes in with some pics and info.

Excellent work, look forward to hearing about it! :thumb:

That's what I call full on mate :thumb:

It's the waiting that's killing me. Now the parts are on order can't seem to think about anything else........!

Once the excitement of ordering wears off its the night terrors you have to worry about........
I had plenty sleepless nights " arggghhh what have i done? How much have i spent? Will it go bang?" LOL

However, once its done it will be lots of big smiles

At the moment I just have pleasant dreams about a Supercharger in the engine bay.

You've always got to be prepared for the worst, and if something does go bang guess I will just have to replace it with something better.

Might bump into you in May as realistically think the car will be going in around 16th.

Was worth it :D

Was worth it :D

Being first to do something is always the scary bit, luckily I have enough examples of other charged C63's to go off.

Acid thanks for everything you've done so far you've been great. Can't recommend MSL highly enough.

Added some more stuff to the list!! As long as I can sort out getting the parts in from the U.S.
