after the new perch, the car's bonnet is highter?

If that was the case why did they have a wheel alignment? Just a thought.

Good point?

Never having done one if these i am not 100% sure, but to me it would be remove spring, remove top arm ball joint lift and tie top arm out of the way, pull bottom arm down and tie down, then get grinding:D, maybe remove shock for better access.

I email the shop, the guy who did it is away untill tuesday, we'll know for sure then.
The person I talk too beleive like Lynall said that they compress the spring, not touching the lower arm.
I looked at the bolts, they look untouch, rusty, and a feeling like they have been there for over 10 years...
Odd, its all Odd... Or in the other hand, I was use to drive a car with perchs failure...
Reckon?

In theory, if any part of the body has been replaced that plays such an important part in the structure of the vehicle with regards to alignment / body height etc, the new perch should have been fixed in place with the car on a jig or body liner.
Therefore the perch will have a reference point from which to measure to a known good point elsewhere on the car.
If the car had been in an accident and the body re aligned then this would be standard practice.
Perhaps somebody on the forum has access to the autodata body system to provide a guide for measuring?

If not then maybe take a measurement as a guide from another similar vehicle?
That would surely assist in identifying the problem.

Olivier, also you could try to remedy this by replacing the rubber spacer shim at the top of the spring.
You obviously need to remove the old one to identify the size, replace with a thinner one, they are sold in sizes ranging from 5mm thickness to 21mm thickness.

interesting. If you don't touch the bottom arm, there is no need to do a wheel alignment, or they did it just to be sure and part of their procedure.
I'll ask them.
Cheers.
Olivier

Was the garage a merc specialist ?

If not, then they might not have been able to use a spring compressor because they did not have the correct merc type.

They may have removed the lower arms to remove the spring.

Yup it was an MB dealership in Edinburgh, here's what Olivier said a few weeks back-

"
Hello all,
Got the car back last Tuesday week, at about 5 PM. This was nice to drive again.
I like to thank MB UK as the work done on the car as been done on a goodwill due to exceptional circumstances. "

Oops spooky:D

This is a good info, I'll see with my indy next week if he got the right spring compressor, if not I have no option but to leave it like this, its not that bad, just a different feeling on the driver seat. Car is really stable at speed also.
This rubber might be the bugger then, the spacer is too thick? I'll ask the body shop what thickness they put on if they know.
Thank you.

Olivier take a pic of car from the side so we can see how its standing and maybe someone will puts there car pic up for comparison.

Are the gaps top of tyres to wheelarchs roughly the same all around?

Lynall

Thanks Lynall. I'll do that soon. Sould I stand on the side too, or not really necessary to have me in :D

Oops spooky:D

Cheeky. :D
The car is really nice to drive, don't get me wrong, its just a different position from what I was use too and this is why I am asking.

the 2 sides, one with hole, one without hole...

The mesurement from the centre axel of the wheel to the arch is 37.5 cm
it varies on the side depend on location, difficult to find a nice flat area here in Edinburgh, anything with tarmac is terrible. Really badly patched and or got holes etc...
The mesurement vary from 38cm to 37cm, then average 37.5.
From the road to the bottom of the bumper at the front of the wheel, its 16cm to 17, again an average of 16.5cm...
Could anyone mesure theirs?
Thank you.
Olivier

those are old pictures

it look like there is a difference, the new perch put the car on stilts? No?

Thats looks fine to me i reckon its worse than what you think due to the low profile tyres/combo you have, i cant see the top of my tyres at all but ive got avantgarde susp which is lower and 18 wheels which are probably taller than yours.

Just measured mine car pointing downhill slightly fronts 34cm and rears 35cm.

For what its worth wifes car pointing uphill 203 avantgarde rears 35 front 38.

Iirc avantagrde susp 20mm lower so yours sounds okay.

Thank you. My wheels are 18 too. If I recall its something like 225/ 40/ 18.
I saw the avanguarde few times, its defo lower.
Ther good part of it is that I don't scrap as much the intercooler on the bumpy road :)

Doing a 4 wheel alignment would have involved slackening the lower wishbone inner bolts to adjust the camber with the wheels on the ground?? Its possible that IBW may be on to something? Its difficult to tell with all the protective coating that's been put on. If this is the case the only solution would be thinner spring pads or shorter "sports" springs. The first thing to try is to release any tension in the bushes since this is a relatively simple operation.

Olivier if its avantgarde how come it says elegance on the wings? or have you fitted avantgarde springs:)

Just looked at mine and lisas car and even though different height to yours, both sills are virtually parallel to the ground which would say to me they are okay.

Sorry didnt realise you had 18s:p

Ps what grober says is spot on mine, also had to have two new bolts.
