hi guys
Im new to the merc. I have bought my dad a ML, W163 but it did not come with sat nav. It has the single cd slot stereo with cd changer.
Ny dad needs sat nav but want the car to look oem, so decided to install a aftermarket kenwood double din stereo which i had taken out of another car.
I removed the factory stereo to check what adapters i will need and was very pleased to find a ISO connector so i thought easy job the kenwood stereo will just plug straight in. I was right about it plgging straight in but there is no power to the stereo, does not turn on at all. After doing a but of research on the net, it looks like i need to get power from somewhere else (other than the ISO block).

I can not find any DIY guide how to install a aftermarket stereo in a merc and am not a technical guy. I really need some pictures to show me what to do! lol

can anyone please help.

Try taking a live from a the ligther , it should be a black/yellow wire

I had this problem the other day when fitting my double din kenwood unit to my c180. basically the bullet connectors on the yellow and red connectors on the kenwoods wiring harness need to be connected together in such a way that the yellow cable on the kenwood ISO connector connects to both the red and the yellow cables on the same section of wires.

This is because the yellow cable from the kenwoods wiring is connecting to the live feed from the car and there is nothing connecting the red ignition feed on the kenwood wiring to the car so the red needs to connect to the yellow whilst still maintaining the yellow connection. You will need to split the yellow cable yourself as the existing split bullet connector on the red cable is not the right split required to make the connection. basically what is on the red cable at the moment is what you need to do to the yellow cable and then add the red cable going to the stereo onto this new split.

This splits the cars power between the battery feed on the stereo and the ignition feed on the stereo so it should power up after you have done this.

The bullet connectors on the kenwood loom will be to change the live and switched live wires around as required on certain cars which have them reversed like Audi, VW, Seat.

You need to test using a multimeter that there is a switched live and live feed on the Mercedes ISO block.

yes those switchable bullet connectors dont do the job needed as they are out the box or when they have been swapped so the yellow lead needs to be split like the red one so that it can supply the yellow and red feed at the same time.
