Air con on the blink again.......

i'll see if the belt is loose.........worth a try..........what have i got to loose?

Hey Paulmb, I've find the Haynes manual and I've done a search this morning during the breakfast:D

Sorry but there is not any references about possible relay to check in case of air-con fault:mad:

No references to air-con under fault finding section!

This do not assure that there is not any relay related to air-con electric system;)

I'm sorry because I'm not able to help you more:rolleyes:

Hope you'll solve as soon.

Please keep us updated

marco, never guess what.............................

IT STARTED WORKING THIS MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF is going on:confused:

it was too good to be true..................:(

a/c cut out again!

worked great for two hours...drove into london...........got to my destination and as i pulled up.........the engine fan kicked in.......a/c was still working....

switched the car off and went....got back 15 minutes later and started the car up.....engine fan came on straight away but no a/c?!?!?!?!?!

spooky!!!!!!!

tell me about it...........................i'm well hacked off!!!!!!

It would be normal to work intermittently if its low on gas, the residual gas will always have some pressure and this will alter depending on ambient temperature untill it's all gone, as the compreesor will only run if the pressure switch sees a certain pressure, this will cause it to run sometimes and not others, not sure how diagnostics would reveal a faulty switch? it would give the same readings as if it had no gas! Is common for the condensors to leak on the C class.

this is so bad to hear!
It's not too expensive to fix though, new condenser, receiver-drier, pipework, labour, re-gas/test/anti-fungal spray etc came to about £350 or something.

The weak point is behind the fans, leaves/litter/bus tickets/cigarette butts etc collect there and hold moisture against the radiator fins.

thanks shude, my mate from local stealership is coming over tonight with diagnostics and uv light/glasses to check behind condensor..............

at this stage, i don't even mind if it is the condensor....at least i'll know what it is?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

cant play these guessing games anymore....just want to get it sorted......thanks to all you guys for your input...will keep you posted.........

Paulmb

Is it only related to your a/c or does it effect the whole blower system.

If it 's related to the whole system and the fans seem to weaken the longer it runs and potentially failing to work at all at times, then your not alone.

I've recently had a very similar issue on my clk and it turned out to be a regulator issue on the blower motor.

But of course @ my local stealership they recommend changing both the blowor motor and regulator for around £350 + labour fitting fees.

I hope this is of use to you.

Regards
Chris :bannana:

h. chris, did your a/c cut out every now and then and then come back on ?

my issue is only related to the a/c......the blower seems to be working fine.

did you have the same symptoms that i've got?

Did you ever get a fix for this problem? I am experiencing the same problem. Intermittant A/C. It was working fine for 3 months, and not just blows outside air, No A/C. As I live in Florida and summer is coming up quick, I need to get this resolved. I have the whole dash apart. I tech told me the fan control module is bad, but the fan works fine, so not sure if he just wants the money for replacing something for nothing.

Also, just had a bad rain storm and the whole front passenger floor was soaked.
It does not appear the consdensor is kicking in. I used to hear it tug on the motor, and buzz, now there is nothing.

I also noticed the dual fans are not kicking in either.

Any idea what I can do to get my A/C working again?

First of all, stop the water coming in, the plenum chamber drain has probably got stuck, on r/h drive models it's found on the l/h side below the bonnet (hood) hinge, give it a squeeze and you'll get a few pints of water out.
First thing if the a/c is not working is to check it has enough gas in it, if it has then see if you are getting voltage at the compressor, if so you have a faulty compressor clutch, if not you have the time consuming job of trying to locate a wiring or control unit/relay fault. In my experience with A/C systems a leak is most likely followed by a compressor fault then a wiring or control unit fault. Is this a C Class Merc. If so a leak is likely to be in the condensor, your dual electric fans and compressor are cotrolled by a pressure transducer on the receiver drier, these send signals to the controll unit which in turn swiches the compressor and fans on as need be depending on gas pressure, low gas charge can cause intermittent compressor operation due to varying ambient temperatures i.e. a warmer day may raise the pressure enough to allow comp. to run although efficiency will be poor.
