I love the smell of a new car and tried these so called 'new car scent' and they really don't live up to their name. I'm not a lover of an over powering air freshener so after much googling I thought I'd go for a Liquid Leather air freshener-"the smell of real leather"......apparently.
It couldn't be further from leather if they tried. I know everyone's tastes, or more so senses, are different, but to me it smells like a cross between sweaty feet, a damp towel and a wet, moldy car seat. Any one else found this with the Liquid Leather air fresheners or is it just me?
Can you recommend a nice air freshener?

You could try using Gliptone cleaner and/or protector on your leather upholstery - it leaves a leather smell behind.

I just buy the plain old tree air fresheners (the yellow ones only, to be precise) in bulk on Amazon

The misconception with air fresheners that come in packets like the trees, is taking them out of the packet. Just a slit at the top of the wrapper is more than enough to keep the car smelling fresh, I hide mine in the car as I hate things in the cabin that are 'alien' in that environment, aside from my phone charger cable

The only other one I like and personally smells the best, is the blue dolphin (jelly type feel) but I can't seem to find them anymore

I use that to treatment my leather... Awesome leather smell.

Thanks guys-Happy to try the Gliptone Liquid Leather cleaner/conditioner. Does it smell like the air freshener, if so I will pass. If it actually smells like leather, I will go for it?

The cream smells like the air freshener.

Personally, I like it but if you don't then the other products will not find favour with you.

I work with leather care products and one of the companies I use for leather cleaning / restoring products sell an excellent product that really does smell like new leather.

They also sell the best leather cleaning products ( trust me I've tried lots and these are my choice )

The company is called furniture clinic.

We use Furniture Clinic cleaner and their protector in the house. They are very good products and keep our 3 leather sofas and 3 chairs in excellent condition.

However, my wife recommended them to my son for his CLK, he used them and afterwards complained that they made his seats far too slippery. I adopted Gliptone for my cars and their protector does seem to have a more matt (or semi-matt) finish.

Pears soap is the best leather cleaner out there. Doesnt leave the leather smelling leathery though im afraid. I bought a few of the so called leather things and thought exactly the same as you. horrid smell.
