I'm sure I don't need to tell you that Airmatic strut problems can be horrendously expensive to fix..
Some of you may already know about the company in America that refurbish struts to a better than new state..
Those that don't can click on the link below..

I did a bit of research on the subject and learned of a company in America called Arnott Industries, (That will post internationally) who remanufacture the air suspension components to a higher standard than the original at a significantly lower price.. The web link is below.. Have a read about their set up and machinery they use... On the American forums they are really raved about very highly indeed.
They even do an "Air to Spring conversion kit" should you wish to go down that route.
Hopefully none of us will need their services for a long time, but I think you need to keep a note of their e-mail address just in case..
Have a good read about the service they offer and the machinery they have access to..
They do strut replacements for Bentley amongst others so it sounds like they know their stuff.

they are a good company, the only thing is they have stopped supplying front strusts to the uk as no-one send the old core units back. you are ok with rears as they are totally new units.

Dam what a shame..
If I am ever unfortunate enough to need struts then I would contact them and pre send mine to be upgraded..
Is there no one in the UK that can work magic like they do ??

You need to factor in the shipping costs. it will cost about £120+ to send a strut via UPS or similar to the USA, assuming US customs accept no duty or taxes are payable for the core part.

I don't know how true this is but I heard the struts are over £1,000 each from Mercedes...
I must admit I can see the point of the airmatic to spring conversion kit..
My airmatic is spot on and doesn't seem to leak any air even if left parked up for 2 days.. (I haven't left it any longer, co I like driving it too much)

I had a front strut go on my E55 last summer cost approx £1300 including labour from a main dealer.

Thanks for all the help guys , I was aware Arnott had stopped supplying the uk , hence the look in Germany .
I was under the impression that the air part failed , my back one and front one both failed in the same manner , leaking around the weld on the oil Res . Started with a drip and still works but damping won't last for much longer . Going to get one fitted by a local merc independent , using a genuine mb new strut , if my mate of a mate comes up good with one then I will fit it my self .
Happy days :)

Hey your lucky if you have "a mate of a mate" :D
They are worth their weight in gold..

I did a quick price up of AIRmatic bits.. (very general, minor differences between VINs) Interesting difference between E class saloon and CLS55 though...

W211
Front strut = £950
Rear Air spring = £700
Rear Shocker = £400
Compressor = £630

W219 (AMG)
Front strut = £850
Rear Air spring = £770
Rear shocker = £370
Compressor = £320

I wonder if the parts are actually different to justify the different prices.

The CLS55 AIRmatic is supposedly "AMG tuned" according to the sales blurb, so I guess the internals would be different.

You need to say plus or inc vat, 20% is a big difference on those sort of prices.

Meant to say "you might want to" not "you NEED to" :)

Two brand new struts on the way for the cost of the postage . Result !!! :) :)

I now if any body wants a recon one from America I have one that needs rebuilding to send as a core . I will when the other one fails have a pair , so I'm going to have them reconditioned and keep them as spares . So if any members need one will let them go at cost but Must have your old one back . All the suppliers I have spoken to will no longer send out a suspenshion leg until they get the core , so any thing from a week to 3 weeks of car in a garage time .
I would imagine that's the reason mb sell so many the saving is not worth the time off the road .
