Airmatic knocking when rising

Hi all,

I rarely use my comfort or raised setting in the ML, but the other day I wanted a bit more dampening so put it into comfort mode...

As the car started lifting, with the rise there's a knocking noise that feels connected to the front wheels.

I checked my CV joints, all boots are in place without leak, and couldn't see anything disconnected or looking heavily worn out.

I will take it to an independent specialist, but in the meantime wondered if anyone had experienced such an issue before/what it could possibly be?

The Airmatic works fine otherwise, car lifts, drops, is balanced on all corners and doesn't sag while parked for extended periods. Just makes this odd knocking noise while being raised and then stops making the noise and the car stays at the selected height.

It passed its MOT a week ago with advisories against two tyres, so a bit surprising nothing was picked up with the suspension

Is it stationery or moving when knocking? Just trying to rule out the drive shafts And CV joints

Hi,

It's both, as the suspension rises there's an audible knocking sound, it stops once it's raised. But in raised mode there's a knock when driving which eventually stops if returned to the lower sport setting, or just randomly starts to behave...

Hi! I have the exact same issue. Have you identified the problem?

One of the most common Mercedes air suspension problems is a leaking air strut. As AIRMATIC systems start to age, the rubber around the strut can become brittle, cracked, or punctured. The seals and gaskets around the struts and the air lines can also wear out and cause a leak.
