Almost pulling the trigger on a W212 E63

You clearly have not traded a Porsche back to a dealer then, they will bend you over and do you some serious damage. That car you mention was probably bought for 28k at part-ex. Porsche dealers have a massive margin on used cars and my previous experiences with them (mainly East London) means I would not buy from them.

No, but then I have never traded a car back to an approved dealer as their prices are always seriously low.

stunning car and great result imo - if I was able to afford that sort of car an 'e' class would not even have got a look in! - the porsche is in a different league!

Congrats Palmball, thats a nice looking car.
You will have to bring it along to the next VMAX event :)

Great choice. Fabulous car.

Let me know when you you want to mod it. ;) Renntech modify Porsche cars too.

Nice one,

Only just caught this thread up and lets be honest if you don't need the rear seats of a car very often (no kids) then enjoy somthing like this while you can.

Also it 'Looks' worth the money, its a supercar. To most people the E63 looks like a E200, ok we know but it doesn't 'look' supercar wow. The Porsche looks quick parked up :)

As a kid we would have pictures of 911's not a Merc saloon.

Just one question though..... What mods have you in mind......

Congratulations Palmball, beautiful car and it goes back to the old saying never judge a book by its cover.

Thanks Charles - one is never too old! Luggage space...now thats a different matter!

I think you are about the age when I was at the start of my car buying obsession. I recall shooting with someone who had a 911 and a Toyota Landcruiser V8 (he must have been about 50 at the time) who said that while he bought the Landcruiser for off-roading when shooting, he realised he was getting old when he much preferred the comfort and visibility it provided. I didn't really get it then, but I do now!

Anyway, I am gaining a lot of vicarious pleasure from your posting. If you get the opportunity, you have to take it to Stuttgart, see the Porsche Museum (not on a Monday as I discovered when in Stuttgart recently on a Monday...) and then hit the A81 past Sindelfingen to the Swiss border and back. Pretty empty and I hit 164mph in my Boxster S (and sustained it!) so yours ....

palmball: Congratulations on the new car. At the risk of sounding like a cracked record have you thought of going to a Car Limits day?

Now that does look like something I would be interested in - I will be attending one of those next year!

Not bad Palmball, but you wouldn't catch me in a Porka ;):D

Lol....when are you going to come clean that you've just copied me then? Ooops, did I just say that out loud?

Of course I will....if they're at Bruntingthorpe then it's relatively local to me!

Will it get tuned, stupid power outputs are possible.

Not sure about tuning yet but it'd be rude not to give those turbo's a little tweak!

RUF - Lol! A little too rich for me I think!

BlackC55 - I will be in touch in the new year ;) Do you have a link for all the nice Renntech goodies?

Age wise - just the wrong side of 30  (or the right side for insurance purposes!)

Yes, I do plan to incorporate another Stuttgart visit to my European travels next year and it would be rude not to get the Turbo on the autobahn!

Hi Andrew,

I have just spent quite a while reading this thread as i missed the start due to being very busy.

As usual a great read and a great choice of car,in the end. When i was your age ( 1980 ) i drove a clients 3.3 Turbo from Geneva to Gothenburg and i have never forgotten it . I can't imagine the difference between the 1980 911 and the one you have, all i can say is enjoy and you you will grow to like the 911's looks.

Don't be a stranger on the forum, we want to hear all about your experiences with the Porsche.

Hi Peter - thanks for the comments!

I won't be going anywhere - I really like this forum and have met some great people on it. I also feel a return to AMG will be a certainty within a year although this whole experience has maybe (finally!) taught me to wait, be patient, and buy a car thats nearly new rather than brand new! Hence expect my return approximately 6 months after the new CLS is launched ;)

In the meantime I feel that discussions about an ugly pimped Beetle won't be welcome in the General Discussion forum so will have to be downgraded to the Off-Topic forum :(

Congratulations Palmball.
Very nice.:thumb:

It's a fantastic car and the look of the 911 is great and never dates. I love Mercedes but once you ve spent time with that 911 it will be very difficult to change to anything else. Time will show.
