I have decided to change the Audio 10 unit into my 2000 CLK320, thinking it would be a straight forward procedure. Got the old unit out and connected up my Alpine unit and nothing no power at all to the unit, put the Audio 10 in and all is well, even an old Sony head unit works. The Alpine unit works fine in my Father in Laws Golf, so am I missing the point here, do I need to change any of the connectors over in the plug for power. If someone could tell me what wire from the unit should connect to on the cars loom or if I need a further wire.

I have 4 wires on the Iso plug on the HU Red (Live on Ignition),Black (Ground),Yellow(Permanent Live) & Blue (?).

Any help or advice please as I am desperate.

Blue is normally remote, either for an amp or for turning the aerial amp on.

Sometimes the yellow and red are crossed over, but it should still turn on, just won't turn off with the ignition.

Ah, have you tried turning the unit on from the front panel?

VWs have the 12v permanent and 12v ignition switched opposite to the standard iso configuration, so if it is turning on when you turn the key in the VW just swap the red and yellow over when putting it in the Merc. There should be bullet connectors on the Alpine harness to allow you to do this easily.

even with red yellow swapped round it would work....check Alpines fuses and make sure the head unit IS still working...

It may have been working, just no auto on/off. And if you don't press the power button on it, which in the case of the 9887r was tiny, it just looked dead.

IIRC it is not a straight swap as the mercedes doesnt have a switched live so you need to wire one in.

Alpine hu

I have sorted it.

I have taken a feed from the Cigarette Lighter and connected to the Red wire on the HU, connected the Iso to the loom and all is fine.

Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah of course, it it can bus for switch on.

I also took the switched live from the ciggy lighter, totally forgot about that. :D
