I'm thinking about changing my motor soon just for a change and for most of the time the BMW 3 series, 5 series, Merc CLK, Audi A6 has been on the shortlist. For some really strange reason I quite like the S-Type Jaguar. When I told people at work everyone laughed and said it's an old man's car. Am I going potty ?
The S-type drives well and the diesel engine has had favourable reviews. Looks are love 'em for some and the opposite for others. Residuals are poor. IMO the E class is a far better car, either the 280cdi or the 320cdi. The new V6 diesel is superb in every way; incredibly smooth and refined and a great performer. And the E class offers far more practicality -more interior space, better headroom and a good boot unlike the handbag-and-a-toothbrush space offered by the Jag. Very few drive the E320cdi and come away disappointed.
The 5 series drives well but has a harsh ride on poor UK roads. And the driving position is seriously offset -very odd- and can cause backache. Massive discounts (I was offered about £5k off a 520d) partly because so many dislike the Bangle looks. It finished a lowly 54th in the JD Power ranking for customer satisfaction.
