Am I going mad ?

I'm thinking about changing my motor soon just for a change and for most of the time the BMW 3 series, 5 series, Merc CLK, Audi A6 has been on the shortlist. For some really strange reason I quite like the S-Type Jaguar. When I told people at work everyone laughed and said it's an old man's car. Am I going potty ?

The S-type drives well and the diesel engine has had favourable reviews. Looks are love 'em for some and the opposite for others. Residuals are poor. IMO the E class is a far better car, either the 280cdi or the 320cdi. The new V6 diesel is superb in every way; incredibly smooth and refined and a great performer. And the E class offers far more practicality -more interior space, better headroom and a good boot unlike the handbag-and-a-toothbrush space offered by the Jag. Very few drive the E320cdi and come away disappointed.

The 5 series drives well but has a harsh ride on poor UK roads. And the driving position is seriously offset -very odd- and can cause backache. Massive discounts (I was offered about £5k off a 520d) partly because so many dislike the Bangle looks. It finished a lowly 54th in the JD Power ranking for customer satisfaction.

My tube has just gone on my 28" widescreen. I don't really want a flat LCD one. A standard CRT one will do. Does anyone know of a clearance place that sells them. ?

oh the slippers and pipe next ....... with a nice knitted cardigan and rocking chair :D

Agree on all these counts. Residuals are about to get even worse with the new XF too! I spoke about getting a Jag a while ago when I was looking at an E-Class too, my wife threatened to disown me if I got a Jag .

On the BMW front my dad spoke to a couple of friends in beemer franchises and they are being inundated with deliveries of new cars to store on site because BMW GB is running out of room. They just can't sell the cars at the rate they are being imported. The number of cars in the country that have been here in excess of 6 months has increased dramatically. It still amazes me the propaganda that is propogated about BMW's healthy sales figures and successes - this just isn't reflected at the dealerships where heavy discounts are the norm.

Interesting point, especially as the two BMW dealers I went to when I was interested in buying a 5 series could not even be bothered speaking to me. Hence, I now have a nice CLK instead. All well that ends well as they say.
