AMG Emblem

Why is it there are people out there that think only V8 engined cars should display the AMG badge??

For the C350 AMG Sport Plus - the original sales brochure and price list quote “AMG” 30 times so surely this is an example where the AMG should be displayed with pride knowing Mercedes itself promotes it.

What on earth will they say when they are battery powered?

Nobody thinks that?? There have been 4,5 (C30 CDI), 6, 8 and 12 cylinder models that are considered real AMGs. The key ingredient is an engine assembled at Affalterbach or Manheim (V12s). With no direct link to the AMG factory, any other model is just a badging exercise. A C350 AMG Sport Plus is a trim level, regardless of how many times it's mentioned in the brochure.

A good litmus test is access to the AMG Private Lounge, if the VIN doesn't meet the criteria, you don't get in.

As for EV's, if you read up on the history of AMG, it was born through Aufrecht and Melcher's love of motorsport after Mercedes-Benz pulled out. If in future the technology and link to Motorsport still exists, such as fully EV Formula 1 or whatever, the brand will stay true to it's heritage in theory.

You have a diesel, not an AMG, whatever the badge on the boot.
Mercedes are to blame for this, but hey, the badge sells cars.

The only real AMG diesel was launched back in the 80's. C30 CDi AMG.
Why can't people understand this?

Every days a school day eh 🤣
Badging exercise or not, I’m keeping mine well and truly on👍🏻

So that should upset a few AMG owners!...Mercedes-AMGengines that are not hand-built there include the “35” M260 2.0-liter Inline-4 Turbo and “43” M276 3.0-liter V6 Bi-Turbo. In addition, the new M256 engine inside various other “43” and “53” models are not hand-built. But they are real AMG cars because they are sold as such (regardless of what some might say....as Merc says they are so that's good enough).....and they all come with a genuine AMG badge!

The 35, 43 and 53 models are just badge engineered marketing department trinkets too in my book. That's not to say they're not accomplished cars in their own right, the A35 alone is all the car anyone really needs in reality, but it misses that magic ingredient that sets the A45 apart. Similarly with the E53, it could have easily been badged an E400 or E450 Sport etc instead, but Mercedes want to cash in on sprinkling "AMG dust" on it, because people fall for it.

Why did he return it if he hadn’t previously been interested in which engine it had?

Mercedes-Benz Approved Used cars can be exchanged within 30 days and 1000 miles. Barrister or not, assuming that the car was advertised as being a 2 litre diesel, and described as such on the order for, then I would say a refund is generous.

I think it was late and he was telling a little story.

I wouldn't say that; surely your C43 is a 'proper' AMG. ;)

Got to love one make car forums for the snobbery factor though. 'Yours isn't a 'proper' GTi/RS/AMG/M series/etc', even when the manufacturer themselves designate it as such. As some one else said the OP is probably long gone after all the kerfuffle this thread has created (yes I know I'm adding to it, but I think it's too late now anyway).

Honestly, no one really cares outside of this echo chamber...it's just another 'flashy Merc' to most people, even if it's an old one. Either that or they assume it's on PCP if it's a newer one, so any perceived superiority is probably just in our heads while they're thinking that we're ****** s. ;)

I just saw a Bus with Typhoo tea on the side, but they didn't sell it. Who cares.

Yeah, but it's still not an AMG, though. Its a Merc with some AMG styling bits. All you have to do is lift the bonnet.

I suppose I should take mine off then, it was on when I bought it from Sytners though.BE6CD4EE-5120-432A-814F-30AC3D86F507.jpeg

Don't get me started on them recycling the 43 name 🤦🏼‍♂️🤯.

But yes, back then the 43 badge meant that although the car was assembled in the Bremen plant, the engine was hand built at Affalterbach, as well as the bespoke interior items. There are various components on the car with AMG specific HWA part numbers too 😉

Wow, Karl that is Geek mode 🙄 bet he gets pulled up about that wherever he goes. 😉🙂

If you really think you have a genuine AMG, join the AMG Private Members Club/Forum to confirm it.
Input your Vin# which you need to do, and if its a "real" AMG you will get to join.

If its not, be prepared to face the truth:D;)

Of course it's an AMG, 'cos the badge was FITTED BY THE FACTORY) so there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Other drivers WILL be impressed as they are unlikely to open your bonnet & peer inside as they go past. The more AMG badges the better just to irritate a snob minority.

Is this where I admit to the leaping jaguar bonnet mascot,,,,,,
,,,, that I fitted to my Mk3 Spitfire

Oh the shame.!!

It certainly undermines any possibility of me critiquing anybody's AMG badges (although I'll admit to being tempted by one of those OMG mickey-take badges they sell on fleabay , for my ratty old Vito 109)
Note leaper on my Alpine - didn't half impress the dolly birds who on one occasion was convinced I owned an E-Type.
