I had a reaction starting my then 22 year old (1952), 4 cylinder diesel Landrover.....There was a woman standing near the exhaust and her white jeans were blasted with black soot.....not happy.

I came across a video a few days ago where there is a button sequence to have the flaps open when you start your AMG. "Emotion Start". I found this link for the boy racersI consider my S63 Coupe is whisper quiet on start up compared to my Ftype convertible which starts with the exhaust flaps open. A quick move of the gear selector calms it down & closes the flaps unless your in dynamic.
I used to do this before I had my valve simulators but now no needI came across a video a few days ago where there is a button sequence to have the flaps open when you start your AMG. 2 year old article......the video I saw mentioned a software update for applicable cars..........No emotion start on my S63 Coupe. Came in later on and might work on the 4 litre ones.
It's not that much louder just enough that it's not too loud99.9% of the time, the last thing I want is an even louder start-up, but I guess plenty of people do. I’ve never tried it, perhaps I will some time.
The 5.5 M157 is blooming loud on a cold start even with the valves closed, so it would be no bad thing if it’s for the M177/8 only!
LOUDI’ve just had the res- delete on my e63 and not had any angry looks from my nosey neighbour, had a straight flow exhaust on my 5 litre mustang and one of my old neighbours used to shout obscenities at me when I drove past, that was bloody load though![]()
Just a shame it calms down pretty quickly after thatIt quite funny starting up the W213 E63 with an AMG emotion start, that certainly gets peoples attentions, usually with a jump or a yell, depending on the type of person.
No better feeling than sitting in car and firing if upAnyone with a 55/63 AMG had a reaction from the public to a start up whilst being close to the car?
For my part, in just over a year, nothing, until last Thursday, and then again today.
First time was outside my local swimming pool/gym and I'd backed the car into a parking spot outside the main exit. Quite a crowd had gathered outside chatting. I noticed two young women stood at the rear of the car chatting in Polish.
I was with my grandson and started the car after an hours swim, so not a cold start ,which is a fair bit louder on a Biturbo.
I heard a scream , then a laugh from one of the women over the exhaust noise , such as it had caught her unawares. Looking in the mirrors, the noise had caught the attention of quite a few others. I couldn't help smiling.
Does that make me a bad man?
Then today, a middle aged woman had parked in front of me at Tesco's open air car park.
She was loading her shopping and as I started the car she literally jumped in surprise then gave me a look that could kill. I could understand it if she was at the loud end, but the front was facing her. I did raise my hand in apology for scaring her but I wonder if she just overreacted.
Anyone else had the dirty looks or the thumbs up on a start up?
Had a Grand Cherokee 5.9 a while back with a custom stainless and twin foam intakes, that got plenty of looks had to sell it as its points to noise ratio was wayy off the scale!Anyone with a 55/63 AMG had a reaction from the public to a start up whilst being close to the car?
