Have briefly discussed organising a track day to a few of the AMG guys on the forum, and thought I,d fly this thread up to gauge weather its worth me pursueing.

Proposing, Goodwood in Sussex next year, (only a few dates left in their calendar thou), not crossed the T,s and dotted the I,s fully, but cost for the day , think £300ish for around 25 cars, giving loads of track time, 5 cars a session, lots of space , plus fuel and individual track insurance should you wish. Goodwood is a very fast track, its a great track in fact, and given these great AMGs in the UK are legally sedated to 70MPH, its a place to give your cars a run, to which they were built for! I can,t believe this does not appeal to many of you AMG guys out there, and with tution available from the on track marshalls, which I,d really recomend to learn the track, it would be a great day out with the company of fellow forum members, albeit the weather unfortunatly cannot be predicted, and if it can be arranged, happliy to be involved, or others can arrange, but for myself, would be happy to sponsor a good sandwich buffet lunch at half time, think it could be a great day out, some of you I know have already experienced a track day. Bear in mind you would be out there for the fun of pushing your car harder than you are able on the road, not to blow the engine, or go off the track and put up with the resulting damage, no one wants that, its an enjoy day, at your own speed and confort.
Initially I need intrest, numbers wise, if its viable, I will get back to Goodwood for any dates left, on this, a payment needs to be made to secure the date, at this point, the intrested parties need to pay for the day ASAP, so bear this in mind should you flag up your intrest, so as not to comprimise mine and other intrested parties time and effort when your monies are not forthcoming. Be good to hear from the intrested,
Regards Rick

me too .. date dependent

did a Jaguar track day at Goodwood .. really like the circuit

Ricky, im in, all date dependent tho!

I don't have an AMG (not even a MB), but I am interested. So if allowed please count me as a reserve name, to allow AMG owners first.

Mark, pop in mate, Goodwood is a great place to visit on the right day, not generally any entry fees to the track, just drive in and see whats going on and have a cup of tea1! Theres an airfield in the middle of the track, seen some great sights.

5 cars a session at Goodwood will see them all over 1/4 mile away from each other. You could easily have more but I don't know what the circuit allows

Great idea but £300 / day is expensive for track days. If you book a couple of instructors that would give a bit more added value. You could also try and block book the skid pan as well

It is a fabulous circuit. If you can get enough people to bring the price down to £150 it'll be a great day and still not crowded

I agree with Nick £300 for 25 cars is expensive if its not for exclusive use of the circuit? if so then £7.5k is pretty good value .

You might need some advice from the circuit on track time as usually the more track time you give people the more accidents you have as people start to get complacent towards the end of the session (just a thought?) so more cars might not be a bad thing?

If you'll have my lowly W208 which should be good for 250 bhp by then, then depending upon date I'd make one. I also have my Instructors license so quite happy to sit in the passenger seat if anyone wants free tuition, although I must confess Goodwood is not a circuit I know well but the principles are still the same.

that would be really great

I have been on the track before, on a Farrari day

It's usually 98 db on most of the circuits I've worked on :dk:

Just to enlighten those who have shown an intrest in this proposed event,
Goodwood track hire, £6250 plus VAT @20%, (as next year), total £7500, plus £250 track insurance, so £7750 for a days hire. includes Marshalls, and head instructor for the day.
£1500 deposit to book day, and balance to be paid 2 weeks before day.
(if it takes off I will sponsor bacon rolls on arrival and sandwich buffet at half time) Coffee, tea and water are free within the clubhouse all day.

We can do a 105DB day, 25 cars, 5 cars on track per session, this amounts to £310 each, but must have 25 people or the cost will rise.

Another route, is a 98DB day, 40 cars, 8-10 cars on track per session, this amounts to £194 each, but again need 40 people or cost rises.

I personally favour the former, I have experienced the 40 plus car day, its a much more relaxed day with 25, more track time, more space, and to the fact getting 25 people together date wise will be easier than putting 40 together, albeit at the cost difference of £115, but for me its worth the extra money to keep to 25 no.

I have spoken to them again this afternoon, re their calender, on the assumption the the few intrested parties, were subject to date, goes for me as well, theres only 1 no. Saturday available next year 13th August, and various weekdays, but getting booked up, I did ask re Fridays, 1st April, and 29th April(bank holiday-Royal wedding day) are available, I know its not gonna suit everybody, but give me your feedback regarding which day/days you all favour, and we will see if theres further intrest from others, especially those C63 guys, but unless theres 25 cars without outsourcing from the forum it wont be worth pursueing, albeit there is another option should the 25 parties not appear, but it will cost a little more, be messy to organise, and will be on the track with unknown others, which would not in the spirit that I,d hoped a day like this could be, but I will go with the majority.

PS; Just to point out those that may be intrested that have modified very noisy exhuasts, bear in mind you dont want to exceed the set DB levels, and they test that on arrival, and during the day, as you would either not be allowed on circuit at all, or possible flagged and not allowed to return to circuit.

Hello mate,

Very much interested, and have been on track before - I live only an hour and a half from the Nordschleife:bannana::rock:

As I'm not collecting my C63 until the end of March I think the 1st April would be a bit tight for me (don't want to commit in case of any delays in Stuttgart). The Saturday would probably make most sense, otherwise the royal wedding Friday. When you nail down the date I'll get back to you 100%:thumb:

Cheers

My ML is not a track car but I might be up for it! Have lower suspension sitting in my garage with no use whatsoever anyway. I only have karting experience, hence a few of questions:

- Is there any possible damage to paintwork and wheels from stone chips, etc? I just resprayed my car.

- What wheels are generally preferred: big with low profile tyres or smaller with lots of cushion?

- Do you guys mod your cars for the circuit, e.g. remove the seats, etc?

Thanks.

Great idea Ricky and thanks for taking the time to try and organise it.

I've just looked on google earth and yes it does seem like a fast circuit with not so much abuse on the brakes. You can put me down for a definite I plan by the month so I'm sure I can make it, would a weekday keep the prices down?

Would we be able to do passenger laps in other cars or does that cause problems with insurance. I really hope somethings comes of this it would be a great day and mine will pass all db tests as its only 77db at 3/4 revs.

Marty

Hi Alx, we spoke at last big AMG meet, good to hear you may be intrested. To Answer your questions, most people on most track days are there in their every day cars, albeit some do go stripped out, but for this possible event, trying to keep it all to forum members if poss, we,d all be there as is. Wheel wise, a lower profile tyre will be better than a big ballon type tyre, help with corner roll. Paint chips, I cannot hand on heart say it wont, but the circuit is usually very clean, and with proposed 5 cars on track its minimal chance, probaly get more out on the road, as you already know.
What I would tell you, an event I attended back in August, there was 2 range rover sports going round as well, they had a great day.
