I had a quick look in the threads but could not find anything regarding good places to fit a 4/6ch amplifier in a W124 Estate. I was hoping to use one to power a set of front and rear speakers, and possibly a sub too. Is there anywhere convenient behind the dash that can be used. I wanted to try and keep the load area as free as possible. The rear speakers will replace the existing ones in the doors, and the fronts will be in the dash.

Also has anyone found a good place in an estate to fit a sub that will not interfere with the boot space?

Many thanks

You are really short of options in a W124 estate. I've seen the First Aid kit replaced by a CD changer so that would be one location for a thick, stubby amp (not many of those around)

W124s with Premium Sound System have an amp mounted vertically beside the rear washer bottle so that's location #2

#3 would be under the floor where the backrest of the 7-seat kit sits. This assumes you don't have 7 seats. You'll need a long, thin, flat amp or two side-by-side

#4 is under the floor where the squab of the 7-seat kit sits. This is quite a big space

#5 is inside the spare wheel. I've seen a changer mounted here inside the cover. I wouldn't recommend this as you'll have so many wires going to the amp

I don't think any of the other possible locations (under the dash passenger side, under a front seat, etc) will be big enough

WRT subwoofers the best options are a custom fibreglass woofer inside the spare wheel (I've built one) and a custom wedge box to sit behind the rear seats. I've built one of those too
