Perhaps it sounds like groundhog day because just when you think things can't get any worse, something else comes along to make you hang your head in despair.Criminal damage on a scale like that just can't be dismissed as newspaper drivel.
As for the idea that just so long as the notion that if nobody dies , something is not an issue...well , I for one can't get along with the concept.
OK, being a bit more sensible this time I was actually thinking about this when I heard about the 13 year old boy involved in a lengthy police car chase and all the kid got was 12 months in a secure crèche.

I then started to think that the softer we become the worse its going to get because any kid that can steal a car and become involved in a high speed car chase with no regard to anyone’s safety needs more than a a slapped wrist to sort him out.
I'm no expert but I'd like to guess that these dangerous dogs that get put down are probably more likely to respond successfully to rehabilitation than a lot of criminals.
