And not a policeman in sight

Perhaps it sounds like groundhog day because just when you think things can't get any worse, something else comes along to make you hang your head in despair.Criminal damage on a scale like that just can't be dismissed as newspaper drivel.

As for the idea that just so long as the notion that if nobody dies , something is not an issue...well , I for one can't get along with the concept.

OK, being a bit more sensible this time I was actually thinking about this when I heard about the 13 year old boy involved in a lengthy police car chase and all the kid got was 12 months in a secure crèche.

I then started to think that the softer we become the worse its going to get because any kid that can steal a car and become involved in a high speed car chase with no regard to anyone’s safety needs more than a a slapped wrist to sort him out.

I'm no expert but I'd like to guess that these dangerous dogs that get put down are probably more likely to respond successfully to rehabilitation than a lot of criminals.

Why change it...well it's like having a conversation with some one, things are brought in to the conversation and it can change direction . I don't think I said ' this is all the fault of the police ' . However, if we had police more interested in things other than motoring offences, youths may not have been able to spend two days ( in daylight ) damaging 80 cars. You can't sit in a speed trap van and cover a beat at the same time.

To some of the millionaire posters on here, I've no doubt that £250,000 is mere pocket money but a quarter of a million pounds worth of damage carried out on a public highway still left me with a feeling of shock.

Do remember though that finding the Vandals won't bring any money into the state, as they'll be little yobs with none to hand over. Catching you doing 33mph is much more lucrative....

Have a look at the cars that were damaged, prestige cars driven by the well off, given the current "political thinking" the owners will probably be made to feel by the police that they deserved it by not garaging them.

All in all, par for the course in Modern Britain.

In that case I'd say the fault lies with the public as much as the police then.

Who rang the police, how approached the kids?

I've been moaned at by my friends because if I see something I don't like the look of I wont ignore it. I'll call the police, the council or if its safe I'll deal with the situation directly.

My girlfriend and I were cycling through the park on Monday and saw two kids trying to catch some ducklings with a plastic bag. Plenty of people walked by and stared but didn't do anything.

So we went to the cafe in the park and the lady behind the counter said their aren't any park rangers anymore (no funding for Enfield council) so she came out and dealt with them herself. Whislt she was talking to the kids their Dad continued to sit on the grass a few feet away and ignored the whole thing.

Who said some of the blame lies with the parents?.....here here

You may wanna call me a young Victor Meldrew but I take responsibility for my own community and believe that everyone else should too.

Everyone is right and has a valid point. my point is that the vandals know they can get away with it, not the police fault but certainly the fault of the justice system and the parents as well. But since discipline has been seriously curtailed it is hard to single out parents.
If one of the owners came out and as much as grabbed the kid to prevent him from damaging their car, we all know that the courts will just dish out a hefty fine and we all know to whom the fine will go. straight to those that can afford it.

basically the message is watch them trash your car and do nothing.

what i suspect makes many citizens boil is the fact of the attitude of law enforcement to situations that do not fetch revenue.and i mean the justice system, traffic wardens, plastic cops, real cops, CCTV, and councils e.t.c.
if they are caught ,they worst they can get is a warning
As for suggesting dave K move somewhere else, if you have never never complained about anything in your life then fair enough.
If not, you do not have a leg to stand on.
So if you complain about your council tax. move to another council.
If you complain about your office ,find another job,
and if you have ever complained about your wife or GF ,find another one.

You make a very valid point but if we do nothing then we're sending out the wrong message and we need to do something about it.

If someone feels that the police aren't pulling their weight then they should put pen to paper.

I'm sure that for every 1 person that writes to the council, police or local government there are 10 people who restrict their grievances to a forum, dinner party or the pub!!!

E.G- I used to witness the local Iceland delivery vans speeding up and down the residentual roads around where I live and also tailgating on two occations. So I complained 3 times to the store and it kept happening. I then contacted the head office and now the message has finally sunk in.

Of course I should have just minded my own business.

yes i know, my hand aches from complaints and court cases between me and law enforcement.
I must say as a voter i am proud to pass on my greivances to the council and a few have been worked on and i even had a visit (imagine that) from our local lib dem councillor once., although he lives locally

I fully agree. Most people today are not interested enough in what's going on locally. I get called by a Victor Meldrew frequently by friends when I do tackle issues head on, but sometimes it's the only way to change matters.

Much as it may surprise you to learn, I have in the past encouraged victims to make complaints to the police. Because I hate being sent to a job 4 days old, and if there are clear management issues then they need highlighting.

It's a question of involvement. Moaning down the pub won't change things, tackling the issue and moaning to people who can change things will.

Voting with your feet's another way forward, hence why I tend to restrict my purchases wherever possible to shops where they call you "Sir" rather than "mate"

totally agree.
my last one was the kids playing chicken on the road .after posting on here, it was straight to traffic police to report the situation and i must say i have not seen the kids there again.
i hope it is not because they were run over.

hey chomper has that honda got an advanced warning camera system?:D.
might hasten the sale

Nope, however, when I am driving it, it is equipped with Human Eyeball Mark 1. This is a devastatingly effective bit of kit against fixed GATSOs due to their yellow attire and rather obvious pole mounting.

It does however have limited effectiveness against camera vans, since my field of vision is generally less than their preferred range of 1km. And it is not trained to distinguish between builders' vans, horse boxes or properly-marked police enforcement vehicles.

Sadly, it has not been fitted with X-Ray Specs mark 2, so is useless against the bush-dwelling Gurkha Traffic Cop Mark 4.

The big, big problem with any speed camera detector is radar contamination. Eyeball Mark 1 has been known to be heavily affected in urban areas due to the ever-present interference from Scantily-clad Pedestrian traffic (Mk.3, Female models). This may lead to distraction and, in extreme cases, cause one to miss small pedestrians in the road.

Luckily I also have the optional speech module, pre-loaded with a range of excuses such as diarrhoea, imminent child-birth and "Testing the car". This module is not covered by the manufacturer warranty however and discretion is advised. Particularly with the keener arm of the Traffic Cop empire.

Honda is "Sold" on eBay, but am waiting for the buyer to contact me :D

Funny how there is no shortage of fully trained officers to wave their laser guns around at any time of the day or night. Saw one myself today on a stretch of road that doesn't have a single house, shop or factory near it. The link road to the Runcorn Bridge with not a single pedestrian access point any where along the spot were plod stood with his speed gun stretched out from behind a bush ( sorry mate- saw your arm ).

Just look at the damage in these pictures. If you carried out that level of damage to a government building, I bet a full investigation would take place in order to apprehend the culprits.

I just knew you would be a Daily Mail reader
