2004 C270 CDI
Just got my first ever Mercedes and I love it. I own a 2004 C270 CDI. One problem I have is that there is a rattling noise (not sure where it's coming from) can be heard in the cockpit. It can only be heard once the engine has warmed up a bit and seems to get faster and louder upon acceleration. It has been on a STAR system at local mercedes specialist and nothing appeared. The mechanic said it might be a dodgy injector but wasn't too sure. It doesn't do it while it's idling or upon first starting the engine. Has anybody else had the same issue or similar please. Thanks

Thanks for the reply Sarah. My rattle gets faster the faster I go and around 70mph it is quieter but I believe that's because it's rattling so fast. Put the radio on and you hardly notice it but it's just niggling at me knowing it's there and not knowing the cause.

A failing fuel injector will sound like a tapping when hot and at idle or low revs.

Most rattles tend to come from heat shields around exhausts.
Had a rattle on my old 911 for 2 years before it was found to be the heat shield bolt had snapped but looking at it on the ramps showed nothing as the bolt head was in the heat shield but snapped behind the shield.

Engine rattles could be from the timing gear or valve train.
Have you checked the water pump to see if it is making the noise due to failed bearing.
Also the alternator can be noisy if the bearing fails.

Hope you both get sorted and the above helps you get there.

Thank you for this, I will mention all these to the garage as they have said it's fixed twice and nothing has changed ... thanks again, from one scorpion to another x

Got mine sorted. It was the handbrake cable vibrating on the prop shaft. The plastic clip had broke that was holding it in place, maybe worth a look on yours.
