Burying your head in the sand and avoiding discussions because they are stressful isn't a good sign. If we all did that at our places of work we wouldn't have a job for long .

I wouldn't wish ill-health on anyone, however I can't see things will resolve themselves by avoiding the issue.
Ian uses the forum to unwind. Motoring is both his occupation and his hobby, he mostly comes to the forum to relax after spending all day at work - he does not come to the forum to do more work. This is probably true for all of us.

What we are talking about is the equivalent of going to the pub after a day of work to find some customers waiting for you at the bar with a list of complaints for you to address. I am not saying that this is the wrong place to post feedback about the work that has been carried out by specialists and mechanics but that to expect an employee or the proprieter of those businesses to enter into discussion in public about an oustanding problem between two private individuals could be too much.

I don't agree with that at all. If someone can accept praise on a forum, then they can be expected to defend themselves when things go wrong.

Unless there isnt a lot that can be defended .............

At which point there is the option to face the onslaught of 3rd party comment or deal with the underlying problem

As I understand it Ian is attempting to work with the people concerned as he has with Nav to date. Maybe he should have more of a presence on here given his previous acceptance of praise. IF however he is busy working behind the scenes to resolve any outstanding issues then that to me is preferable to coming online to be the sacrificial lamb for slaughter from the many who have no direct dealings.

The ability to reply to bad feedback on here is limited to just a few companies that are "on the forum". This means that as a whole these sort of incidents are fortunately almost non existent and there is no real precedent for how to deal with them.

As has been stated - everyone has the right to post feedback good or bad, and by that very token the trader concerned has the right to post a reply as and when he feels its appropriate

Dont fully agree with that... I might be wrong, but from what i remember, in this case, it was this forum and its members that insprired and encouraged him to open up the business.. although its very much social on here, it is us, the forum members that gave advice at the beginiing of his venture and have supported him throughout..
his first customers and i bet the majority still are forum members, or at least have seen him "advertised" on the forum...
just type W124 works into google....

I know I have sent LOTS of my clients to him, whether they mention my name or not, I know lots of clients of mine have taken their cars to be serviced there... It simple... oop north i recommend Ian, Middle I recommend myself, down south its Ollie...

Im not saying he has to reply to all the threads, but it would be nice to hear something once he is feeling better..even if its only one line...

My thoughts entirely. The people that have complained on here have done so because they went to Ian upon direct recommendations from the forum. I have no ill-feelings towards Ian at all - my point is that the forum is a valid place to air your grievances and also to expect a reply.

I disagree with this one. I have no issues with people typing their review - that is what this site is about. But we can see how easily these threads run on, with all (including me unfortunately) putting the two penny worth. Imagine how it would go if Ian came on here stating his case - it would in my opinion tear the forum apart with different views. What Ian has done as I understand it is to resolve issues direct (and with some cost) with individuals such as Nav.

I run my own business and there is no way that I would expose my business to the kind of hassle that an online argument would create. Ian in my view is doing the best thing that he can do for his business at this stage and keeping his head down and letting this blowover. At the end of the day he has his clients who know him well and will not be put off, and as he can't control bad publicity the best thing he can do is sit tight.

" (and with some cost) with individuals such as Nav "

That implies that the cost should be Nav's

Not at all. But in my experience people will give time away to resolve issues. For them to spend cash on parts means that they are really making an effort to resolve the sittuation.

Update:
124works have reviewed their approach to the work carried out on my car, and we have reached agreement on a revised final settlement. I would like to put this behind me now, and I wish Ian all the best with his business in the future. It is very much to his credit that he has worked with me to sort this out.

....just wanted to know how you fixed the squealing brakes?

Mightymouse, may I respectfully suggest you re-post this as a general enquiry in the Wheels and Tyres section? I don't think this thread is the appropriate place for practical advice. Thanks!

He didn't snap.
The intention was to move the question away from this thread as it isn't connected and this thread has been somewhat contentious.
