Another day ..... another crash

Life has a habit of producing nasty surprises when you least expect it.
My comiserations (again).

As I see it, you have a number of choices:-

1 Move house. There is a cost attached to this. I am sure you can work it out.
2 Get the Council to put up a hefty metal barrier. How long will you have to wait? If the Council , having been informed of the danger, do nothing and you get 'hit' again - sue them and you'll win.
3 I'm not sure who owns the land between the road and your kitchen, but you have 2 choices. Build a mound of earth or dig a ditch. My preference would be a bit of both. Better if the ground slopes down into a ditch and the side of the ditch nearest you has vertical wooden stakes(8"dia) / logs 3ft above ground, 3ft below. Behind this 6ft of compacted earth to your wall (you need a new one don't you?) 6" sand at the wall for drainage. Now a vehicle would have to move the stakes, 6mt of soil and a wall to get anywhere near your cars or house. This will cost money - I am sure you can work this out.

Its a matter of working out the easiest way to keep youselves and your property safe.

:) :D :D Would your choice then be flat and level?;) ;) Sorry about that, it just struck me as funny (I have a stupid sense of humour)

shout at me if you like, but ideal place for a speed camera?

instead of on nice 30mph bits near nothing.

isnt there a rule that defines when a camera should be sighted. such as 1 fatale accident, or several near acidents in as many weeks or something.

it seems to me that to prevent most accidents here you just need something to slow them down for this bend! surely nobody can be too annoyed about that?

I can only assume a large bank holiday weekend has addled your brain my friend. :) Surely the answer is perhaps a sign warning drivers that there is an adverse camber bend ahead and perhaps a grippier road surface?

After all, this is a NSL road and though I'm no expert I very much doubt that Beemer was doing more than 60, therefore unless you're going to slap a 40mph limit on the road (which will infuriate people), then I'd go for mitigating the danger of the bend rather than just slapping up a few more Gatsos.

That would mean the driver would have to have knowledge of the Highway Code and we all know some members thoughts on that issue.

That is a crazy location to have a residential property. I accept the house may well have been there a long time, but if anyone had been outside the property, then they would very quickly have been jotting down the engine number of that BMW. Is it practical to put restrictions on every bend where vehicles crash? It is clearly driver error as opposed to speed (one is as good as the other though) To have a house acting as a barrier is crazy, but there does not appear to be much room for any preventive measures???

Take care,
John

.

i can agree with making changes, but my point was, its this type of area that should have a camera as its the most economcal and will reduced the speeds therefore the accidents. Unlike the ones near me, that were put up coz some mummies wanted them for there little kids! it was not based on accident statistics just presure and our lcoal lib dem MP wanted his name in the picture. I have lived here 6 years, in that time not one accident, of any nature has occured, but several people have been caught speding, and that is one of the requirements for the cameras.

in this thread, the accidents are the result of excessive speed, and as it creates lots of accidents, then something should be done. nothing to stop a 500yard 50mph limit here, which would not doubt reduce the accidents totally, and a camera would enforce the speed limit for that stretch.

altho i may be wrong, but it seems to make sense as they have a lot of accidents.

Clearly the council will take months to do anything?
You however, can take immediate action.
A sign might have some effect but a ditch and a wall of earth is best.

Yes, but unless the speed limit for either that bend or the whole road is dropped the camera won't serve any purpose, as its unlikely that the crashing cars are doing more than 60mph anyway.

Though I guess there could be a benefit that the cars might smash into the speed camera post before they get to Pontoneer's house.

actually that is the better idea.

lets club together and get the whole countries speed camears uprooted and repositoned here, that they will have a few to crash into!

they can drop the speed limit for a section of road if they deem that area blackspot.

Whatever the answer, it does appear to be poor driving causing these accidents. gives us drivers a bad name really

Before your Merc was written off, has there been any history of trouble on this bend before?

Just the odd one .....

These are just since I started documenting a year or so past , there has been a long history of accidents at this location ; the land was purchased for the realignment in 1985 ( yes - eighty-five ) , money has been allocated for the work - yet nothing happens !!!!!!!

Got a reporter coming out tonight , meeting with one MSP on Friday , and with another on Saturday .

Not trying to be funny , but ... time to move house ?

Or if you really wanna stay , id personally be looking at installing a crash barrier round my house of some sorts.

Just out of curiosity were you waiting for this to happen hence you've got it on camera ????

If so then you should be seriously thinking about moving house, god knows what might come next:confused:

i hope something gets sorted.

mind you, they will probably want you to pay for it.

in fact, i am coming up to north of the border on Monday, i may have to have a trek passed and see if i can get the chariot round that bend!

what road number is it. (edit: got it off the other thread)

if nothing else, you will get me on camera.

 Can't believe that, second time in a week. I wouldn't park anything in the drive now.

Can't view the video yet as we don't allow QuickTime or videos on our network...

Hope things get sorted quickly. Purely from the pictures of the damage to the Primera it may make it uneconomic to repair due to the number of panels damaged. Labour and paint can be expensive, althouh the parts are cheap.

You cannot put a price on health, I would move........

It is easy to make demands for different improvements, but the problem will always be there. We all all think we are perfect drivers, accidents are never our fault, its the fault of the road, its the fault of the weather, its the fault of the other person. Its never our fault because we're perfect. That BMW driver will no doubt be blaming something, or someone. One day it will be a 40 tonne truck and you might get a picture just before it does some very serious. Move.........

I would hire a piledriving company to 'plant' some old railway line upright into the ground and then intertwine some inch diameter steel cable between the posts before tensioning it ...

This should stop anything ..... i stacked a metro headlong into a setup like this at a 'stock car' oval in Bedfordshire ....

Stopped me a treat .....

Or as Les said, the cheapest option is to dig a ditch and put the spoils on one side of it .....

EDIT : John, i bet you just as the estate agent is showing someone round the house a car would come through the lounge wall, i reckon that might put them off a bit .... sod's law !!

we had a similar blackspot here in Bexhill but it was on a 40 mph road - the council finally got a camera installed which nobody complained about (least of all the house owners who in the past have had to extricate chavved up metros from their bedroom) and there hasn't been a single incident since.

Sometimes a drop in speed limit and some serious enforcement is neccessary

Andy

Ref:- Numberous crash pictures.
Why are so many people loosing control on this bend ?
What is the road like BEFORE the bend ?
Are there ANY warning signs before the bend ?
Have any vehicles hit another vehicle coming from the opposite direction ?
signs102.gif

I don't like that sign ..... half your car would have to enter another dimension to leave skid marks like that .....
