I thought I had seen them all on eBay... now I've found one I wasn't expecting...

Won an auction for a car (a W202 I wanted to use in either the Timbuktu or some pan-Asia drive)... and the seller isn't even bothering to send me their address for collection.

All things considered (rough cold-idlying, rust on arches, rust/dent on boot) I thought that the £600-odd was on the higher end of what they could get for a C180...

Sigh... the search continues I guess... but why are there so many wackos on ebay!?

God knows.

I bought a used part for the X5 - a climate control panel. Display was faulty.

First of all did not want to do a full refund, then offered a full refund, then started arguing.

Posted it using the pre-paid label supplied by Ebay, he then tells me its the wrong address and is on the way back to me.

Ebay intervened at this point and gave me my money back. Oddly (I suspect not!) it's never shown back up here.

Its a pain - as I passed up on a much better car for £800 (and much closer) - thinking I had won the other one...

May just turn up at their ebay registered address :p

Perhaps the seller found a buyer outside of ebay ? Aside from being pig ignorant ,he will now have to pay listing fees and commission. No telling with some folk though.
We had a neighbour that regularly placed his house on the market , and complained each time that he could not find a genuine buyer. However , another neighbour told me that her sister had viewed the house , offered the full asking price , and had it turned down!

I won a 2007 E90 with some light front end damage. 45k, one owner from new. Immaculate inside and out apart from the damage.

I won the bidding and spoke to the seller on the phone, got his address, agreed collection for the next day.
Went to the bank and got the cash (not an insignificant sum).
Called him the next morning to tell him I was leaving and he turned around and told me he had reconsidered and would sell it to me for precisely double the winning bid?!?!

Have since seen he has relisted it 3 or 4 times and it looks like he still has the car sat on his drive.

I really don't get it. All it would take is an email to me stating that they have another buyer, and that they wont sell me the car. If you're going to be an ass, at least own up to it!

Grumble... going to see another car on Sunday... not a W202 sadly, but it's another car I have a garagefull of spare parts for :p

Ebay

Think i must be one of the lucky ones on Fleabay as since having nearly 500 transactions both selling and buying ive only a couple of times been messed around but their customer services is great and things were quickly sorted out. Cheers, Tony.

I have never had any trouble on ebay but I have to admit to looking at seller profiles closely before bidding.

When selling cars I always sell it as a classified advert rather than an auction. This way, the car is advertised for 30 days at a fraction of the cost of an auction and the actual sale works as if I had advertised it on autotrader or similar.

Never been an issue.

eBay is becoming more difficult for sellers (as well as more expensive). The powers that be at eBay towers are trying to become more like Amazon.

Ironically Amazon are trying their hardest to become eBay.

We have stores on both (as well as our own website) and they are completely different places to trade with completely different customer bases.

We now do over 1000 transactions a month over the two platforms selling circa 3000 items.

99% of the time it's straightforward, but you really do find some special people in that remaining 1%

I think many sellers on ebay are not familiar with the concept of "auction" and the idea if it only bids up to £20 then its probably only worth £20!

Red c220, that is my experience also as a seller.
I'm a part time seller, sell between 100-200 items per month and have given up with any auction style listings, they seen to attract the nutters. Buy it now listings seem more successful in general.

Being a buyer on eBay isn't a problem, the tools available are pretty good for the buyer to suss out what he's getting. I've had very few issues when being the buyer.

We have 2 ebay ID`s both have totally different customer types, the dedicated panasonic ID gets much better customers than our generic one.

I buy lots of odds and ends via ebay, and never have a problem. I do the basic checks, look at feedback and number of transactions to make sure I'm dealing with an relatively established seller who can write a legible ad.

Selling, in the very low volumes I do is a pain. Sell something, describe it properly. 80% of the time, no problem.

20% get into a loop of their being some vague problem after delivery, so how about a 50% price reduction? NO, send it back and I'll refund. How about 75%, etc. Just too much effort and time wasting.

I appreciate that I'm side tracking but I bought a triple Pany phone set from you a couple of years back without realising that you were a member here. Anyway top deal mate :thumb::thumb:

Do you have an Amazon Store Dave?

We find that has a completely different customer base to our eBay website.

Far fewer transactions but higher value.

Amazon uk and Germany we take seriously France less so, if anyone is thinking if doing a foreign amazon then message me for a crucial tip.
