Hi all, just joined so be gentle. Recently purchased a 52 plate 1.8 kompressor coupe. Esp error lighting up my dash. Did a scan with a snap on solus and launch x431 diagnostic and came up with 2 codes.

p2035 and p2036.

p2035 said brake light switch, now my brake lights work, and im sure esp error is combined to the switch.. Had a look at the brake pedal and there is no switch..then i had a look at my master cylinder and it has a sensor on it. I unplugged the sensor and brake lights still worked but now had a BAS error, plugged it back in BAS error gone. so where would the brake switch be located?

p2036 cruise control/speedtronic error. cruise control electronically turned off?
Again this could be due to esp error?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

It should have a switch on top of the brake pedal.

Less than £20 from a dealer.

Although brake lights work switch can still be faulty.
A faulty switch will deactivate the cruise control aswell.
Have another look, you will need to remove or lower under dash trim to see switch

Thanks for the replies, will take a closer look tomoz.

Switch is held in with a quarter turn and a single plug. You need to drop the lower panel to see it , when you push the brake pedal , it pushes the switch in. It might all still work ok , but they degrade over time and is the first port of call with problems like you have.

Did the one on my CLK the other day , cost £13.

Cheers for that...I did look for it,even took the plastic cover out, all I could see was brake pedal and a spring higher up thats all.

All W203 has not separate brake light switch. BAS detects brake pressing from the booster.

ESP may be related to the malfunctioning ABS pump.

Nice info,Thanks
I would like to add that no other error is found and nothing on the display just the esp,no triangle or engine light. I have not checked the brake pedal as my back is playing up and have man flu..lol.

yep...possible wheel sensor, yaw sensor or steering angle sensor..will suss it out monday, not forgetting charging system.

Hi all. Today my esp light has gone out.. Hooray. Must of been the drier weather me finks. AsI've always drove it in damp/rainy conditions. Also cruise control comes on as normal but how do I use it? Sorry for being dumb lol

At the speed you want to maintain, dip the stalk up or down - current speed is selected. By pushing upward you may add 1 mile to your set speed, or downward decrease it. Disengaging the cruise happens when you touch to brake pedal or push cruise stalk forward. You may resume to last set speed by pulling stalk backward (toward you).
I think you'll suffer esp failure in future... it tends not to repair itself.

Cheers for the reply! Will try cruise control when I next go out. I did think the problem will come back guess I need to see which sensor is faulty.
