Any advice on buying a 2000 CLK coupé?

Hi,

I'm looking into changing my car from a 1998 W202 C-class estate to an X-reg (2000 yr) CLK coupé. I've seen several for sale and am currently considering buying either a 200 Sport or a 200 Kompressor Avantgarde.

I don't know much about the Kompressor and have never owned a turbo or supercharged car. Do they ever go wrong on the CLK? Are they more expensive to service than the non-supercharged version?

How much is servicing typically on these models? I know the B service is due on the 200K so need to factor this into the purchase price.

Both cars have done between 70K and 80K miles - is there anything I need to look out for or major expenses that typically come up at this mileage?

Can the rear seats accommodate two child seats? (We have a family Scenic but may need to use the CLK for the occasional outing 2 adults + 2 small children).

Any help, advice and owners experience would be much appreciated.

Rich.

The 2000 year will be a W 208 which I don't know much about. I can tell you that opinion is a bit divided on forums as to whether the later model W209 is a full 4 seater if the driver is tall. In my opinion it certainly is a 4 seater, as I have often had 4 average size adults in the car for long journeys and they've been very comfy. Consequently 2 child seats should be easy. I've also had 2 'booster seats' in the back, fitting fine and dandy for the children of friends we've been traveling with, in preference to their 4 door, 4 seater Peugeot.

From what I've read the supercharges are quite reliable.
The supercharged 2.0 and 2.3 are more desirable than the normally aspirated 2.0 version, which I would imagine to feel quite underpowered.
Servicing wise I think £200-£400 are rough numbers for the minor-major services.
Check when the spark plugs are due a services as this will cost extra.
Budget for automatic transmission fluid change, as this is not included in the services, but some owners recommend changing before 100k miles.
With all CLKs of that age check for rust on the wheel arches and boot.
