Any ideas on clunking noise?

My brother has a w210 E200K (2000) with just under 50k miles. Over the last couple of days it has developed a clunking noise when pulling off and braking. Seems to originate from the drivers side. I have had a quick check of the ball joints and a visual check underneath and nothing appears untoward. Discs and pads are new. Springs also seem ok.

Will be taking it into an indy garage tomorrow to have it checked out but was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem, i've heard of wishbone bushes, steering dampers etc all going on these cars but his car has been perfect to date.

Any ideas as to what may be causing the noise?

Tyres maybe? my brother's W202 had a similar noise but on turning either reversing or cornering

Try the anti roll bar bushes & end links.I had to replace mine 3 times in 2 years.The genuine ones last longer than euro car parts items.
