I've now got the 190 fully serviced, she's had pretty much everything, ball joints, anti-roll bar bushes etc..
Its time to start looking for some better looking wheels but I just don't know what to go for.. Buying new genuine is a must in my position but I just don't know what will suit the car...

I tried adharaz already and the fitment is all wrong so that throws probably majority if not all the W203 fitment wheels out..
I've got a set of W210 sador's lying around somewhere that I'm going to try later...

Needless to say the MB wheel configorator program I have access to doesn't even go back to W202's never mind W201's that being the easiest option to clarify fitment..

Anyone got any imaginative idea's they must be 17" wheels

here's a crappy camera phone image

How about some evolution wheels?

Those wheels won't fit ;)

Some W203 wheels can look ok on a W201 - these are 16" though:

so some 203 wheels will fit, any idea how I can find out which ones or at least which offsets.. adharaz are 7.5 j with an et37 offset from memory and they interfere with the anti-roll bar..

must admit though the edgey design of the amg 1's especially colour coded do suit the squareness of the car... hmmm

I must admit - I'm a little surprised that ET37 7.5s won't go - were there any tyres fitted, if so what size?

Silly question but why must they be 17s - personally I think that can be a little too big for a W201 and does become awkward trying to find a suitable tyre size that doesn't cause steering/suspension problems whilst keeping the rolling radius the same.

The car above belongs to a friend of mine and rides very nicely with 205/50/16s. Even the 'Cosworth' 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 only used 15" wheels with 205 section tyres.

I have AMGs on mine (body coloured), though I don't know if they are 1s or 2s but they have 225/45s on, all round. I think they look great and suit the car well. Also, they are 16" and look plenty big enough to me. They get quite a few compliments too.

In fact, were I to be getting a new set that's exactly what I'd get again.

don't know why I fancy 17's just presumed anything alsoe with a low profile tyre on would look lost under the arches... Bigger is best and all that!

The adharaz had a 225/45/17 on it as it was the 7.5J version, just checked the wheel catalogue they're actually et36 but never mind..
I've got one with no tyre on it I'm going to try that one also, never did get chance to try the sador...
tyre choice isn't really an issue as I order probably £1000 worth of tyres a week direct from my supplier, They pretty much can get anything I want..

My view, and it is a personal view, is that darker cars do not benefit from having large highly visible 'silve' alloy wheels which require lower profile tires. Such wheels, eg AMG styling II, are much better suited to silver cars where the wheels blend in to the bodywork and dark holes between wheel spokes are minimised. My suggestion is therefore to choose a wheel that looks darker - so it would have to have less spoke area/more hole area and not be very large - to increase the area of the dark tire when seen side on. To be fair the alloys? in the picture don't look bad on the car.
This link shows a 190 with the wheels attached to give you an idea. There's 40 pages of wheels here. The car is white, mind, but you can't have everything. Good Luck with your search.

How come the evolution wheels don't fit? :( Are Ceginus wheels a possibility?

thanks for the link DITTRICH. There's some options there to go at...

Based on the fitment guide it looks like the adharaz may fit afterall with a 215/45/17 tyre, When I tried it it fouled the antiroll bar when just on full lock.
May try again with the 215 tyre
I keep harping on about the 203 sport wheel adharaz cause I've already got 2 of them and I'll only need to source another 2. Plus they're a really nice looking wheel.
I've also got a set of 18" amg style V's lying around but they would cost me more than what I paid for the car (LOL)

The ones that are pictured are too wide for Jay's W201 - the factory car has a shell that is different in that there are bulges in the boot where it has been adapted for the increased width.

Don't know about 'Ceginus' wheels, I suppose it would depend on the width and offset?

PS - Jay, 225/45/17 is too big for a W201 as well - in fact the technically 'correct' size in terms of keeping rolling radius etc the same won't fit easily either - IIRC most of the people who use 17" wheels on a W201 have to compromise by running tyres that are too small.

thanks for the info will...

I figured it may have tyre size implications and that It would probably end up with a very low profile tyre.
Just spoke to my tyre supplier who is sending me a 215/45 and a 215/40 for me to try free of charge... The nice guys that they are....

215/40 might go - but it's the wrong size tyre at the end of the day - gearing and speedo will be affected ;)

I'm still not convinced it's worth the trade off for 1" extra in rim diameter :)

Will

its a case of what I have available and the cheapness of the availability more than trade off's over 1" diameter....

If I had some suitable 16" rims cluttering up the floor we'd be discussing the merits of 16" rims LOL !!

infact...........(goes to look)

not a great choice to be honest
8x16 ankaa from 'E' class
8x16 electra from 'C' class

I'm presuming the 8j's will be too wide

W203 wheels should fit your W201 - I have even seen a W201 with W203 Electra wheels... (they have a combined ET of 32 and 37)!
