Anyone had to replace an exhaust on a CLK or any other Merc?

My exhaust has started blowing, and I'm trying to get an idea of how much it will cost me to replace it. Hopefully it won't be the full system, but knowing my luck it probably will be!!

My car's a 2001 CLK 230K.

Anyone had to replace their exhaust, (part of it, all of it??) and how much did it cost you. Did you have to get this done at a stealership, or did Kwitfit, etc. do it?

Thanks in advance....

i recently change the mid and rear sections on my w124. got it from eurocar parts and asked them for the best one they do. parts cost me £135 inc vat. not bad i think for a six cylinder engine.

I had a powerflow Stainless steel front box fitted on mine, cost inc fitting was £100 about 2 years ago,Before that I had a Remus S/S back box fitted which cost about £220 plus fitting,Both still going strong.Ive never had much luck with kwikfit or any other cheap exhaust as they usually rust within about 18 months sooner if your unlucky.I'd try for S/Steel or stay with OEM at least it will last.

Where did you get your exhaust from?

Yes, replaced the entire exhaust from the manifold back on my second Mercedes, a 1991 300E about 5 years ago. Cost was around £700 and that at Jackson's (main dealer) in Bournemouth.

However, had the car needed a catalytic converter (it wasn't fitted on that model year) then the cost could easily have been £1000+.

Its definitely worth phoning round the MB Dealers and specialists in your area getting some ideas of cost. Here's hoping you don't get too much of a financial spanking!

i have had 5 pattern front pipes/cat's on my c180 and finaly got my money back from the supplier as they were all noisy and made the car resonate...

Stick with a genuine merc system! I ended up with a 6month old second hand one as merc wanted way way too much for a new one

on the same subject my 1991 w126 300se is blowing near the front.

has anyone got a new bit i could purchase to fit it?

p.s. can anyone fit it for me? :)

Ive got a rear AMG box for a clk, I bought it for mine but have now decided to sell the car.

I haven't had to replace mine, however I expect to soon.

That said, I believe that the "catalytic-convertor-only-at-the-main-dealer-ring" has been smashed and you can buy OEM cats (often over the web) from Europe for a few hundred pounds.

Worth exploring because if you are not having to deal with replacing the manifold section of the exhaust where the bolts get heat welded into the engine block, then I believe that fitting an exhaust (assuming you can get it onto a ramp) is as easy as it looks?

Can anybody confirm that the all or some of the above is the case?

After a lot of searching on the internet last night, I could not find a source for a new CLK exhaust manifold. Searching for a new exhaust system proved fruitless as well, with most found, only to be from the manifold backwards, and not a full system. I obtained a quote from www.Breakeryard.com, and a used one would set me back £190.94, however I'm not sure how used this would be and how long this would last. A visit to my dealership today resulted in a quote for £471 after a £50 discount. Approx. £320 for the manifold itself, and 3 hours labour. Having read about studs shearing off during DIY fitting of manifolds, I think I'll just have to bite the bullet, and let the dealership do it.
