General question to the C63 community - has anyone used the Race Start function yet?

Now I'm over the 1000 mile mark I believe I can access this function but have yet to try. Will give it a go soonish (am on holiday as of Fri) and video the result, but just wanted to know if there are any 'been there, done that' comments from those that have, er, 'experimented' with this function. :D

Just make sure if you do try you have a big Gorilla Tub in the boot to put all the pieces of gearbox in to.

The AA/Mobilio recovery man will appreciate that! :thumb:

Used it loads....

Got my 0-60 time clocked at 4.3 at Silverstone

On a quiet road it's a great bit of fun, really quite an event with the brake on, throttle floored and revs held at 3-4k the roar of the exhaust and anticipation just before you release the brake then BAM!! Off you go....

Awesome what are you waiting for? its great fun. I use it at least once a week....and at least once or twice 4 up. They loved it...

Im assuming its quite safe to use this every so often and unlike other cars where you can only do it a few times before killing clutch or gear box?

That's the spirit!

I was told by my dealer during handover that I can use it as often as I liked - if there were any gearbox temp issues it would flag a warning and not engage Race Start until the 'box had sufficiently cooled.

Off on hols tomorrow so will try it when I get back.

Oh, and to echo SimonM's comments, good man mw_C32 :thumb:

Not used it yet. Need a decent bit of dry road but was told at factory collection that it should not be used too often.

If its not happy it won't switch on race start. Once I tried and the engine wasn't warm enough the first few times I kept trying to switch it on and couldn't work out why it wouldn't engage until I realised you have to switch off the traction control first...

As usual I should read the manual first...;)

I've used it a couple of times when friends came to visit and I was showing them the car for the first time. Quite exciting to use but there was a lot more wheel spin than I had expected, although it was pretty damp out. I didn't do any timings or anything but it didn't feel appreciably quicker than just flooring it! I've not had a play with it recently though as all my journeys at the moment seem to be with my two kids in the back seat.

It took me a couple of goes to get it working the first time - I wasn't flooring the throttle sufficiently so it kept coming out of the RS mode.

Looking forward to the video!

Okay, so I just went out for a drive (very much  followed by :D in tonight's conditions) and, nearing the end, popped by a local, and very quiet, trading estate with the express aim of trying out Race Start.

So, car fully warm, systems in sport handling mode, steering wheel straight and click. Click. Click. WTF?! It won't engage Race Start!! Drove home and consulted the manual but there's nothing in there that I missed. Mileage is 1130. Any ideas?

Did you switch the traction control off?

Update...it works! I had done everything correctly except was not pressing the brake pedal hard enough. You need to be pressing extremely firmly.

Anyway...what fun!! :D

I will do at some point, but it may be a few weeks.

In the mean time, the C63 is off to an airfield to be 'recorded' this Friday.
