Appropriate sentence?

That wasn't clear from the report. I would not be surprised if the sentence is appealed by the victims family.

As it stands he would be released in 6 years if he behaves himself in Prison.
I hope the family do appeal. Absolutely unjust he will be free in 6 years whilst 2 lives have been taken.
He should have got the maximum sentence allowed for each victim.

I’ve never understood the logic in ‘Time off for good behaviour’

Why not: ‘Time added on for bad behaviour’?

Seems pointless a judge giving a sentence that’s never served. 🤬
It's a carrot for the prisoners to behave.
I'd make them do every single day.

I know that.

But time added on for bad behaviour would be exactly the same carrot.

This could lead to a situation where someone goes into prison for a relatively short period of time, then never leaves due to 'bad behaviour' (not too dissimilar to Jean Valjean from Les Misérables).

To my mind any form of incarceration should be preceded with a legal process, i.e. a conviction of a criminal offence such as assault on a prison guard or another inmate etc.

Like Charles Bronson. Poor sod.

The other thing that annoys me is killers who won't say where the body is. No body location, no release IMO.

And lesser sentence for guilty plea. Give a standard sentence for guilty plea and add extra time for not guilty pleas.

The 'discount' for a guilty plea isn't fixed, it depends on the circumstances - pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity (e.g. when first interviewed by police), will get the maximum discount, while changing the plea from not-guilty to guilty on the morning of the trial, will not.

There shouldn't be any discount for a guilty plea at any time. Rather an increase in sentence if a not guilty plea is entered and then the offender is subsequently found guilty.

I think the point of the discount for a guilty plea is being missed.

It is there to encourage admission of guilt and thus avoid a full trial. This has multiple benefits as there is no need to microscopically test all the evidence, and remember also that juries do sometimes reach perverse decisions even when presented with strong evidence.
