I'm a bit of a fall guy for a good bit of architecture, I thought I'd share the latest of my finds with you.
As it happens this particular one is in the town of my birth Bishop Auckand, so a little bit special, and all originally influenced by the Prince Bishops of old.
The building I'm referring to is only just being completed and is set within the grounds of the Bishops Palace (Auckland Castle) and was build with the aid of the Heritage Lottery Fund and designed by no other than Niall McLaughlin, who went on to win an award for its design.
If you don't know anything of my region and are wondering what the hell "Prince Bishops" are you will find the answer here. Prince Bishops Durham World Heritage Site
You will also find the recent history of the Bishops Palace and its new owner here https://www.frick.org/exhibitions/zurbaran/auckland
As you can probably gather I'm very proud of my region, even though I now live in In North Yorkshire, (blame my new wife for that) I feel it still gets a bit of a rough deal from its old mining region past, so if I can help drag it out of those times I will.
I now as of last Saturday, actually have a bit of personal link to the Palace due to my wife, "nee Pollard" who is a descendant of the knight mentioned in this story. Legend Of The Pollard Brawn – Mysterious Britain & Ireland
The land is still known as Pollards land today and we still have a Pollard Pub..... I was even taught about the event at school as was, I'm sure, thousands of other kids form the area.
The last of the pics is a pic of the grave of said Knight in St Andrews Church Bishop Auckland with a scrawny looking boar at his feet.
Quite a link I think.
