just a question,

is the windscreen washer components of a 124 heated? Should the washer bottle/washers have a heating element inside of it?

If it's heated it will be very obvious, with pipes entering and leaving the top of the bottle.

For me it was. Power window down. Squirt Fairy Liquid bottle full of neat washer fluid on to windscreen and use wipers.

There was an electrically heated option in some markets I believe. Seems to have been mounted in place of the filler lid? Don't know exactly how it was powered but if it was anything like the washer jets and mirrors it would be automatic below a certain temperature. çàï÷àñòè Mercedes: êîäû çàï÷àñòåé ìåðñåäåñ

you might get some clues from this circuit? http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CAR/Mercedes-Benz/1995/E320/SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS/5462.pdf you might need another relay controlled supply triggered by the windscreen washer nozzle circuit for example.

the jets themselves can be heated, but the contents of the bottle arnt.

i noticed the other day that my mirrors were steaming, it was clearing the mist on them and thought maybe the washers should be.

as Grob's mentioned it is activated under a certain temperature, does anyone know what mechanism triggers this very thoughtful german piece of engineering?

so it came as an option or somthing back then?

Hi,
I investigated retro fitting the heated washer bottle on my 43, this is also the same for the 210 and 208 (and looking at the 124 diagram it appears the same), the bottle is plumbed into the coolant system, it is fed from the re-circ pump (original one requires replacing to achieve this) and the other side of the bottle heater is piped back into the coolant system via the hose at the back of the cylinder head.

the water jets on the w124 are heated electrically at the jet itself. If you remove the water jet fom the bonnet you will see the jet has screen wash hose as well as the two wires for the heater.
the mirrors of the w124 are also heated electrically . they are controlled by a themo sensor swtch on the mirror itself and come on when the temperature falls below a certain level , I think its about 1-5 C.
I owned a w124 300d since 1996 till now this is how i know about this.
I now own a w210 320cdi and very impressed with the economy . so thinking of selling the e300d
