Artico vs. Leather

I had a Lancia with Alcantara interior which was far better than any leather I've ever had since. As for Artico, ever looked at an old MB with Artico seats? Even with high mileages and use, they still look new.

Who would want seats that outlast the body due to rust?

I'd rather replace the seats every decade than have every panel replaced/repaired.

We're still talking about MB's here aren't we? My Lancia had no rust but the CLK has been in 3 times for rust treatment since it was 4.5 years old.

Sorry, yes, that was intended for MBs!

Still got my Integrale, after 15 yrs- the seats are faring better than the bodywork. Chose a yellow one mainly because it had Alcantara- all the red ones seemed to have leather, which looked less nice.

I prefer the Nappa in the CLS though (but doubt if I'd bought it new that I'd have shelled out the extra for it).

They haven't yet managed to get it to "age" properly, then? Proper hide acquires a certain patina as the years pass by.

Well the engines were the same, mine was the Thema Turbo. :thumb:

My dad had a thema 8.32 when I was 19. He let me have it for the weekend as a birthday treat. That was a real wolf in sheeps clothing. Although the ferrari exhaust note often gave the game away.

Where are you getting that info (Designo using Artico)? I can't see any cloth on the dash on the designo page or the used example below that...

Mercedes-Benz UK - Lines and equipment - designo

Approved Used 2013 MERCEDES-BENZ SLK350 BlueEFFICIENCY for sale

The Designo page mentions an optional Alcantara windscreen surround- perhaps that material is also used elsewhere in the standard Designo package?

In the same vein, nylon is more durable than silk and can take much more punishment, but which would you rather wear?

So, another Max Mosley connection in your threads today.

Sorry, I'd got it in to my head that Artico was cloth.

I'll get me (leather) coat.

So does 'exclusive' nappa just mean extra bits of trim are covered in it? My CLS has it as opposed to the standard nappa but assumed it was a better quality of leather.

Yes, as far as I can make out, but I need to check that with my dealership. In the price list, the description of exclusive nappa is identical to that of standard nappa apart from the line that I highlighted in the image.

Talking about Artico vs. Leather

Just take some realization on these:

Leather

The major benefit of leathers are they bring elegance and style to your car seats. You are more comfortable with the smooth finish and clean lines. Leathers come in different colors that will match to your car model and color. It is easy to maintain and can be wiped clean with a cloth or vacuumed to remove dust. Leather are durable and looks better as it gets older. Its scratches are manageable and can be enhanced to look better.

Artico an artificial leather

It is available in a wide range of colors. It can be your excellent choice when you want to look and fell your car seat better. It has a soft quality and not as durable as real leather.
